Stupid NBA Draft predictions....
Just to prove how stupid these things are:
Kyrie Irving, 18 yr old Point Guard for Duke, hasn't played since the 8th game of the season draft stock is RISING and he is now the 2nd projected pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
Enes Kanter, The Turkish Player who got the shaft from the NCAA rules committee, hasn't played a game ALL YEAR LONG has seen his draft stock DROP and is now projected as the 5th projected pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
So one fella does not play and moves up while another does not play and moves down. I guess common sense is not a requirement in judging NBA talent. I can't judge talent either but I have enough common sense that says this makes absolutely no sense at all.
Re: Stupid NBA Draft predictions....
Well you have to look at the other players projected to go in the Draft that ARE playing. If they shuffle around, but the non-players "stay put" then they have to move around a little. For instance, if Irving was say 3rd and teh 2nd place guy sucked balls and fell to 4th, then Irving would have to go top 2nd to fill the void until someone else has higher stock than him.
But these predictions are almost never accurate anyway..
Re: Stupid NBA Draft predictions....
I would say the NBA scouts get it right about 75% of the time. There are a few bust but for the most part they get it right. You have to remember that the NBA drafts a lot on potential and also the NBA game is a lot different.

No problem with the "drafting on potential" but one kid is out with a TOE injury bad enough to force him to miss the entire season and from what I read the cast just came off to see the progress and his draft stock is moving up, while the other kid, A MANCHILD IN GOOD HEALTH PER RECENT EYE WITNESS ACCOUNTS AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT, has his draft stock slipping. I must stink at being Big Enes's little Turkish buddy agent and had better do a better job.
Re: Stupid NBA Draft predictions....
I agree with Tim in that the NBA drafts on potential....you're talking about 18 and 19 year old kids that may not even be done growing yet....Why do you think Daniel Orton went ahead of some guys with better numbers that may have been seniors....He was a big freshman that showed signs of athleticism....Unless you're the Spurs it's hard to find a ton of talent once you get outside of the top 15 picks....And the draft order won't be determined until the NBA finals and teams really have to draft at a position they need filled....It's not like the NFL where you may have 10 positions you need help at....

I guess I am not saying it corrrecty. My only point is one kid is hurt and and moves up while the other is not and moves down.
Re: Stupid NBA Draft predictions....
One of them has played this year and showcased his talents...the other hasn't

That would be my guess as well.
Funny story about NBA scouts. I used to work at a magazine named College Talent. I covered mostly high school teams/players but also covered some college stuff. I was sitting on press row in Freedom Hall during a U of L game. There was a scout for the Hornets sitting beside me and we struck up a conversation. This was Francisco Garcia's frshman year. Reece gaines was the star of the team at that time. The NBA scout told me that he would not draft Reece in the first round and that Garcia (who was only getting about 15 minutes a game at the time) was a surefire NBA prospect. I thought the guy was wrong, but look what happened. Gaines got taken late in the first round and only lasted about 4 years in the NBA. Garcia was a lottery pick and has a good solid career, even with missing all of last season with an injury. I guess why I don't get paid to be a scout or talent evaluator! :)
