10 years since Dale Earnhardt passed
Sportscenter had a pretty good piece on the 10 year anniversary of Dale Earnhardts death. I could not stand the way the man drove or how cocky he was, that being said I hated to see him go. The man made things interesting on the track. Not been anyone since him to go out and just pee people off cause they want to. You get some of them that get mad at each other for a race or two then there buddies again. I was pretty die hard nascar for a several years and looking back now I think I lost interest cause it got boring after he died. In the sportscenter piece they had commentary from the drivers involved in the wreck, Mikey Waltrip, Dale Jr, the doctor at the hospital and several others. The one person who I felt bad for was Ken Schrader. You could see the tears well up in his eyes as he talked about going over and pulling the window net down and seeing Dale. It looked like to me that it still haunts him, and I guess walking over and seeing one of your friends like that would do that to a fellow. Anyway, just my ramblings, hope I didnt offend anyone, didnt mean to if I did.
Re: 10 years since Dale Earnhardt passed
I saw some of that myself and Shrader was tore up...of course I would be too. I wasn't an Earnhardt fan but liked him in the mix. Jr's driving suffers now that his dad is gone as well.
I'm a #48 fan from the busch days and if Sr was around he would be on Johnson like he was Gordon all the time. Like I said I miss seeing the #3 drilling people on the track and the sport has suffered from his loss.
I'll be watching the 500 this weekend and pray the Kurt Bush doesn't win!!! Hard to tell who will win but my gut says Harvick. I want Johnson to win but with 5 titles in a row at a track that demands a drafting partner......he won't have alot of friends in the end.
Who's your pick?
Re: 10 years since Dale Earnhardt passed
I was in the stands on teh backstretch when he hit the wall. My uncle who was next to us was listening to his frequency ono teh scanner and knew something wasnt right. A few hours late we were sittin in Applebees on Dunlawton Ave in Port Orange when the news announced his death. The whole restaraunt went silent and you could see his die hard fans starting to cry. I am a Jeff Gordon fan, so i know about the rivalry, but that day everyone was a Dale fan. What a loss. I lived in Daytona at the time, and it put a mood over the whole town. It was wierd.
On a side note, My Dad is is down there right now and on Sunday will be sitting in his seat for the 14th year in a row. Wish I was there right now. I would kill for some of the local restaraunt food about now.

I havent kept up with nascar much over the past couple of years but I like Tony Stewart. I would like to see him win, but any one is better than seing Gordon, Johnson, or any of the Busch's win.
