Been going there for several years. Can be awesome. Take in line spinners, small cranks, few top waters, lots of white/pearl grubs and jig heads. Try to get some good maps of topos of lakes you will be on. And if you are mainly fishing, dont plan a lot of moves or a long trek. You will not have as much time as you want to fish. What area are you going to?Any where you can find some current should be good. A little advice, pack lite if you have long portages. You will be surprised how little you actually need to make it there. Dont over pack. Good rain gear and lots of bug repellant are a must.

All good stuff.
* take bug dope but use it as little as possible It EATS equipment, is bad for the environment and you, and more importantly......FISH HATE IT :) :) .
* leave the inline stuff at home. leave the top water at home. As cmac stated take plenty of grubs in pearl white. Also take some smoke and chartreuse.
* take plenty of pearl white super flukes.
* take a TON of jigs and tubes. These are what I have been fishing with most the past 6-7 years.
* Depending on water temps, plan on traveling to find the right water. Don't stick in an area too long if you're not sticking fish and the conditions say you SHOULD be sticking fish, MOVE.
* Get maps of the areas.......McKenzie maps are colored now, and have great topographic lines......USE THOSE. This time of the year, they should be on the nest, but you will find pre spawn, post spawn, and spawners all through the area.
* Eliminate water before you ever go. This is really important, and if you are on a loop type trip, understand that fishing is secondary, no matter what the folks say. Loops take a lot of paddling and lots of work. By the time you're done paddling, you really don't want to fish. MAKE SURE you know the details before going.
* Back to eliminating water. If the lake you're going to is too cold, to warm spawned out, whatever......understand that all the bodies of water up there do their thing differently, and adjust accordingly. Prespawn on a BIG Lake (sag, basswood, crooked, sturgeon, etc, etc) will be spawn or postspawn on the smaller bodies. Adjust to what you find.
This time of year, I generally only fish those patterns, and TARGET where the smallies should be doing their business. Find the warmest waters and hammer them. AND look for the types of bottom structure that work. Pay close attention to the type of gravel, pea, sand, etc, etc, that you find fish..... YOU will be able to replicate this all over that particular lake, and probably on other lakes.
* DO plan on covering a ton of water.........but once you find a pattern and fish, hammer that pattern until weather changes it.
If you send me an email about where you're going, I can take a map and give you some ideas......I have every Fisher and McKenzie map of the area, and have 2-3 other programs that I use for trip planning, which usually starts about 6 months before I go.
* Use fireline.......the fish up there are silly and will eat anything, including a boat anchor.........
Finally, checkout my website......lots of stuff there

Geo is right on with the bug dope. And he may be right on the top water, may be a little late in the spawn for that. But we had tremendous luck on Blue fox inlines the last three years in early June.
You make your own decision.
well someboby better stop in and see me,,what i`m understanding from the locals is that i`m sitting on 2 great musky lakes here...LOL

No disrespect meant cmac............
I should have said......I didn't use them, and quite frankly, I don't like LOSING them to northerns.
I don't use a lot of flash baits just for that reason. A lot of lakes, you can eliminate losing stuff to toothy critters by eliminating how they feed on stuff.
I don't like to use leaders either, so when I do lose a tubejig, it is not nearly as painful as a fox.
Thanks,
Geo
