Painful weekend at KY lake 3/18 - 3/20
Man.
We had a tough weekend Fri - Sun 3/18 - 3/20 on KY lake. Great weather.....painful fishing.
Maybe we just didn't get on them. I heard of one boat having a 60 fish day today. I'd like to know where. We fished lots of different stuff over the past 3 days, and simply could not get on a decent bite.
We did manage to win the drum contest Friday and Saturday with some bigguns, but could not manage numbers or size with regards to bass..
We did get a decent early morning bite this morning way back in Sugar, and I even managed to catch 4 or so on a sammie. Other than that though, we only caught 8-10 fish a day.
So guys.........what did you do, and how did you catch them. Don't need to know where, just need to know someone hammered them :) :).
Later,
Geo

My advice, don't believe everything you hear!! It's weekends like this that make you want to get out there and fish harder! Well, that's what I tell myself anyway...:)

Don't know about the guy with the 60 fish but we fished the Wildcat out of Mineral Mounds on Sat and there were not a lot of fish caught. It was tough. Sixteen something won it. We had one keeper and a couple of really nice ones got off at the boat and a few shorts. Maybe it'll be better next time......

No rosy reports from me. I didn't hit it hard this weekend as I had a roof chore on my outbuilding and a couple of other off-the-water distractions but I fished 6 hours on KY Saturday and 4 on Barkley Sunday and I only managed 1 bass. I too got on a nice drum bite Saturday and it is sad when you get to the point where you start to think where you can catch a few more drum before dark but I was there Saturday just wanting something to bite. When the water comes up and the numbers are shallow it can be a lot of fun but when the fish are still mostly out high water has been tough for me. Well they should be coming up soon as things are changing quickly. In one cut on Barkley this afternoon I spied 63 for the surface temp. As cold of a winter we had spring is coming just as quick. I'll have to mow the lawn next time down!

With the water in KY and Barkley being 4 feet over summer pool I didn't even attempt to get out there. Spent the whole weekend on local watersheds.
All the reports I've heard are that fishing is just tough right now. The fish are scattered. Having said that, once they drop the lakes and the levels stabilize, I bet it will be on like Donkey Kong. I'm guessing within the next two weeks it will be off the hook.

That and some stabile weather, when these fronts slow down.
Re: Painful weekend at KY lake 3/18 - 3/20
The lakes have peaked and they are showing KY lake down over a foot from current levels by Wednesday and I am sure they will keep them coming down. I bet by Sunday it will be at or below summer pool and I am just wondering how far past they will go. I bet they drop it a foot or so below and leave it there. I think I will aim again a couple of weeks out myself...

Its 3 ft over now,put in port road monday had 5 in about 11/2 hr,nothing hiuge 15-16 in some had eggs, main lake 55f,all my fishing was in 8 ft of water or less.Ended up with a Few shellcrakers and a catfish as brought some minnows to bob around.
Bass were caught on cranks number 7 shadrap and 200 bandits, pointer jerkbait, purple worm senko in 4-6 ft of water. Its a westerly bay and warmer than main lake, never got over 200 yards from the ramp.
Its not a big secret forget starting the big motor,at 146 cfs no ledge bite, its mid bays to back ends and main points.
Maybe im missing something but to me a limit is a good day,the catfish(29 1/2)and shellcrakers came home with me.

I'm going down this weekend(26th-2nd) for a week to get after the Crappie, I'm hoping next week is when they turn on! Who knows though thunderstorms are carrying a cold front in that is supposed to carry into next week my luck potentially may be like the rest of the guys, well anyway we're crossing our fingers and hopefully wont have to break out any Dynamite jigs! LOL
