Just kind of curious how long some of you all let the lure suspend, how long do you wait between twitches/jerks? I've heard to do a jerk, jerk pause....but how long of a pause?

I usually cast out, crank a few cranks to get it down, stop, twitch, twitch, pause, reel a couple cranks, pause, twitch, twitch, and repeat back to the boat. The two things I vary are the length of the pause and how quick I do the couple of cranks. The colder the water the slower. I have heard people say they pause for up to 30 seconds but I don't have that kind of patience. 5 to 10 secs max usually one or two secs...

chub, if you are fishing around cover that long pause right next to cover is often the difference in getting a fish to strike when the lure does start to move again, its hard to pause that long but it does work.
Is that how that 6.6 KY hit? I just saw the picture on the photo board and what a pig KY! Nice fish! That one would be a nice one on the wall if you are into such things...

Like most baits water temp has alot to do with the speed of your retrieve/ colder - slower warmer-faster but you must have paition even if you can't wait -wait any way just part of fishing.
As mentioned above, water temp has a lot to do with the pause length. As a general starting point, I will usuallt start with about a 2-3 second pause. The cadence I use is cast, crank a few turns, jerk-jerk_pause-jerk-jerk-jerk. Repeat. I fished a tourney with a pro and he taught this cadence to me, this is the cadence most will use. How hard you jerk is really decided the fish. Just like a crankbait, you just have to play with it until you find the way that is just right. Don't worry, the fish will tell you when you have it, "just right!". Hang on!
