My Yard
Boys my yard looks worse than an old cow pasture. That drought last year put a whoopin on it. I like my grass looking good and this is hurting me boys. I have been slinging seed and fertilizer but dang it, it's looking rough as a cob.
Did that drought hurt any of your yards or plant life, Dang it....

Re: My Yard
Mark,
My front yard looks pretty rough and I do my best to take care of it. I fertilize in the spring and fall and mulch my clippings all thru the summer to help with the natural fertilizer of grass clippings.
I put some patch master stuff down and wouldn't ya know the freakin flooding rains have washed it away or killed the seed. I also put topsoil down to fill in some ruts that were made from a backhoe and it's washed away as well.
The Ash trees in my front yard had kept their seeds longer than usual through the Winter they would spiral down and they would gather up and smother the grass in areas. I raked them up several times but man there are millions of these dang things!
Been thinking about digging a drain in the front yard to divert the water to the street instead of me having a river run through my yard everytime we get rain. Maybe I should get some Sod and start over??!!

Re: My Yard
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

I like the way this man thinks.

Re: My Yard
I'm kind of like Mark in that I like to have a nice looking lawn....guess I'm getting older though cause this year so far I've said to heck with it....I haven't put down any spring mix of weed-n-feed nor do I plan to. Heck with it, save the money I would have spent on weed-n-feed. This should allow me to reduce cutting the grass from two times per week to once per week (which I don't have time for anyway), and man I have a pretty good sized yard too. Also have to cut my parents yard...I'm kind of in the market for a "life-like" lawn, so if you all know of any vendors peddling such let me know :)

Re: My Yard
My yard looks pretty good for not watering it at all last year during the drought...Let mother nature take care of it as it will each year.
Got a neighbor who ( I swear ) spends 400 dollars a month on a water bill just to water their yard each day with a sprinkler system. My yard looks just as nice as theirs does right now.... Now later on in the year, it might not be as green, but believe me it'll still have to be cut every 5 days or it'll have to be raked after it is cut by the boys....
So believe me, they don't like letting it grow more than 5 days, or they'll be raking up the clumps of grass.....

Re: My Yard
Trashed. The crab grass has taken over. I will have to kill it this fall and start over.

Re: My Yard
every patch where the grass died some kind of plant with little purple flowers has took over, i am pretty sure this plant is what kevlar is made from based on how my mower with brand new blades cant cut it it just lays it over ....anybody know what this plant is?

Re: My Yard
For whatever reason, mine is looking really good and full. In fact, I'll be out mowing it today in a parka. ;)
Anyway, I've never watered my lawn a single time, but I attribute it to a couple of things:
1. I let it grow longer and don't cut it quite as short as everyone else.
2. I put down a weed 'n feed last fall/early winter and am going to put down another one this weekend. I've done that each of the last 4 years and my grass looks healthier than anyone else's in my neighborhood.

Re: My Yard
I did make the mistake of cutting mine to short last fall late I shouldn't have done that.
