Search Baits
In the recent issue of Bass Master magazine there was a recent article discussing search baits. Included as search baits were Spinner Baits, Carolina Rigs, Swim Baits, Lipless Crank baits and Football Head Jigs.
Distinctly missing from the list was Crankbaits (other than lipless). Are Crankbaits a search bait? Or are they something else?

Why would you search instead of catch? I get what you are after it justs seems like a fancy way of saying "I tried everything in my tacklebox till I found what they wanted".

Re: Search Baits
Yes I think that they are. Anything that you can cover water quickly with and catch some fish are search baits. If I come to an area and and start catching them I may slow down and throw a jig or t-rig to try to get a little bigger bite.

Why do they call it fishing instead of catching?
About 1/2 the guided trips I have been on we do more searching than catching. If the guide has to search, I as a novice certainly have to search.
If you look at the professional tour; a lot of the professionals have pretty skimpy fish totals; I bet they search a lot more than catch.

Re: Search Baits
Yes I would consider crankbaits a search bait...it can be fished quickly, and you can find fish and then slow down..

I know they are. I bet if someone wanted to do some research they would find an article somewhere talking about Crankbaits being search baits. I didn't read the article....
