Why your gps sometimes fails you when traveling
Very good read if you use a GPS to get around town or to take on vacation or even business trips. A must read for the GPS traveler.

I once spent about 30 minutes trying to find a marked brush pile on Kentucky Lake while fishing in a Crappie Fishing Tournament. I wasted a lot of time trying to use my Garmin eTrex Vista GPS unit's Map source Fishing Hot Spots KY Lake map which showed a marked brush pile that was not where the data base said it was. I was over 100 yard away from the mark on the map data base.
I eventually found the brush pile with a keen eyed observations. I read that turtles often will hide in among the brush pile and that they sometimes will surface near the brush pile. While searching for this brush pile I noticed a small turtle surfacing a few times about 100 yards away from where I was looking for the brush pile. I finally moved over to where the turtle was seen and then found the brush pile in 12 ft of water. Must have been luck or just good knowledge of wide life habits and a good observation. Putting 2 and 2 together helped me find the brush pile. But that Brush pile was empty and we didn't catch any fish out of it. The spot that I had chosen to actually fish was being pounded by 25 mph winds and huge waves. I forgot to calculate how the NW Winds came into the mouth of this big bay and made it impossible to fish with a NW wind. But if the winds are coming out of the South the mouth of this bay is an excellent spot to catch crappie. So always check the weather report and apply it to the spots you intend to fish that day.
Hopefully I learned a valuable lesson that day.
