Big Storm Damage
Well, I got lucky last night and not in the great way, just the really good way. Around 12:15 this morning my power went out so I sat in the dark for a while petting the dog, keeping her calm. I got bored so I went and got my flashlight and used that to help me find my emergency candles. Lit those up and went looking for the emergency radio since I could no longer watch the weather channel. Had the radio in hand, returning to the couch when I heard the start to blow and knew a big gust was coming. The gust just kept getting louder and louder until I was certain it was the train and then the house started to shake and the windows started to rattle, then it got crazy, the crashing started.
First in the front of the house, then in the back then, all around, thumping the roof and the windows. I knew I was a goner and that the house was about to be lifted up with me in it, heading somewhere over the rainbow. Seemed to last 1-2 minutes, probably only 30 seconds. The house stopped shaking and the train left the station, becoming quiter as it went away. Lightning was striking everywhere so I just sat on the couch and waited for my hands to stop shaking and my heart beat to slow a little. Opened the back sliding glass door to check out what had caused the crashing noises and found a tree on the back porch which I did not want to climb over so I went to the front door. Guess what? There was another tree blocking the front door. I moved a few branches and went outside to check out the damage and discovered a third tree crashed down in the side yard.
All three trees are partially on top of my house and I cannot see the roof through the darkness and all the other branches to see if there is any real damage butt there are no obvious leaks yet. At least two more are down along the lake frontage. The one I call "the leaner", for obvious reasons, actually made it through the night.
My chainsaws are in Lexington at the moment. Any one in Marshall county have one I can borrow for a few days? Actually, these are big trees, I will just go rent one for a week because it will take longer than a few days to clean up this mess! At least I am alive when I couldhave , and probably should have, very easily have been crushed. What a great way to start my birthday!

Re: Big Storm Damage
Just checked out the damage in the light of day, not as bad as it could be but there is significant damage. Time to call the insurance agent. If anyone would like to rubberneck, I am out towards Moor's at the end of Steamboat Rd. in Marshall County, last house on the right.

Re: Big Storm Damage
Wow glad your safe, that would be scary. I was watching that storm on the local news last night at 11pm and it sure looked ominous. They mentioned a much bigger storm is coming tomorrow. Man we need a break! Be safe out there.
