St Croix Premier Cranking Rods
Does anybody on here have the the 7ft heavy action cranking model? Im looking at getting a cranking rod to throw big square-billed and some deeper diving cranks and was wondering how stiff this rod is. Also, how does the 7ft medium heavy cranking rod feel? Any help is greatly appreciated guys.
Re: St Croix Premier Cranking Rods
I've used St. Croix rods exclusively for a number of years. Strictly avid series. However, I recently bought the medium action premier series as a "back up" rod for when I want to have 2 cranks tied on. I've used it a lot the past few weeks with medium and shallow runners and been pretty impressed with it. Caught several 4+ lbers on it, but no giants. I've not thrown any deep divers b/c I usually don't throw them until a few weeks from now. Only difference I can tell is that I can't cast quite as far. Other than that, very good rod. Not disappointed at all.... My guess would be that the heavy action would be too stiff.
Re: St Croix Premier Cranking Rods
i have the medium and the mh. both can handle square bills with ease. got each paired up with the revo winch and they will handle pretty much any shallow cranking i want them to. the mh will also handle deep divers if need be but i prefer the 7'10" legend tournament mag cranker for any cranking deeper than 12'. that 7'10" handles those big heavy deep runners like no other ive ever used
