No such thing as American made
I know this has been discussed on here quite a bit, but there honestly isn't anything Made in the USA anymore...Today, I purchased a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500....On my way home my dad got to looking through the paperwork....It was assembled somewhere in Mexico...If that wasn't bad enough, 37% of the parts used on the truck were made in Mexico...Doesn't change my opinion on the truck any, but kinda irritates me that all these companies claim America but really don't support it

According to the young lady at my favorite bar, something was recently made in America.
Man I hear ya! Think of it this way, it's how I look at it. Cheap mexican labor can build my parts if it makes the truck sell at a lower price so this American can buy it. And as long as my American dealer honors the warranty, he can put foreign parts in it all day, if that keeps him in business to fix my truck under warranty the next time. None the less, congrats on the new ride. To get even, put a bumper sticker on the back that says: 37% Mexican content, 100% American owned"
Guess I'm getting older, but I don't much care anymore where it came from, as long as it calls my garage home.
Re: No such thing as American made
The same thing happened to me when I bought my 04 chevy truck. I about had a stroke.
Re: No such thing as American made
Ford is just as bad, check it out. My wife and her Mother and father own a body shop and a huge amount of the parts for alot of makes comes from Mexico. I also throw cornhole and water my whistle at a bar within spitting distance of the Ford truck plant. That place is constantly full of Ford peeps on breaks or lunches drinking, (heavily) at times. I don't know what's worse Mexico or a sauced up American, lol.
Congrats on a fine purchase Steven. Nothing pulls a sled like a chevy truck.

Lol!!! You said California?? Hmmm.. So it was built by mexicans! :p
Re: No such thing as American made
My family also owns a body shop and I've worked there for 16 years (I'm only 28) and I see parts come through the door everyday that aren't American made.....Basically all of the aftermarket parts are Japanese...Lots of the OEM parts are Canadian or Mexican...Made in the USA just doesn't mean what it used to it....I guess Dodge's commercial "Imported from Detroit" should have accurately stated "Imported to Detroit"
However I'm really enjoying the truck so far...It's nice to finally have a V8 4WD again

Re: No such thing as American made
actually by the time you go through all the factory rebates and haggling the heck out of them you can buy new for just about the same money as you can buy one two or three years old
