Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
Looks like it could be a good open water frog. I can't help but think that the hook will be a hindrance in the thick stuff.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
Its not a gimmick, like many mfg they do show the best of their product,it does however work.
First time out caught two fish, one short one keeper all on the front hook, later during spawn they swiped at frogs sometimes grabbing by the legs(any frog) the stinger setup with its double hooks did let me get some in.With the single front hook i can toss into the thickest american lotus and never get hung up,even with the doubles can work it slower in them. The skitters legs perrmit different actions like a popin bug or a horney toad or some all their own like a shallow diver.

Unlike a horny toad when a fish swirls and one doesnt take it you dont have to reel it back in and recast it floats just stop it and twitch. When using the clone version its realistic floating with merely head above water, after pulling forward those legs spring back after stopping creating a secondary action,as a clone frog it is slower than say a spro, but one never ever needs to squeeze it out.Fished with a skitter legs and stinger one can cover the water as quick as a horny toad or buzzbait yet slow it down to a crawl if needed.
I am biased as am a frog man,yet try one.
It does require a different hook set ,upon the flush reel up and tighten and set the hook no waiting, wait like a spro and you will get very little for your efforts.
You can experiment somewhat with the hooks a weedless matzuo 2/0 will work in place of that banjo minnow hook eliminating the rubber band weed guard and stingers can be 2/0 to number one.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
thanks for the info mule, i appreciate it... Should get it friday, I will take it with me to evansville and rub it in Pauls face when I just slay them with it.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
If getting two set one up with style 2 action 1-skitter legs with stinger either way its a horny toad one being more subtle in action.
I use the stinger hooks on all my frogs, but they are quite versitile one can use a small s hook on the back and another weedless single hook, making it a tad harder to connect but harder for them to get off,1/4 plastic tubing from wire to hook will keep it straight behind it,the legs keep even the doubles fairly free of greenery.
It does take some practice getting the hookset down pat, remembering to strike immeadiately yet with a tight line,so if it doesnt load the rod reel up on it.
The same hit on a spro would be the kiss of death as one waits one,two three before setting, with normal floaters.
Even when not taking frogs they swirl on it and wont on another brand, and unlike any other brand can get a hit miss and toss right back to it even if you lightly stuck it,and again will smack it.
Have actually caught same fish twice in one day.

haha, we will see. i hope you have two of them:rolleyes:
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
I did get two as a matter of fact... I will play nice and share.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
In the future buy more you can get 5 for the shipping of one,I always have three rigged minimal each one with different legs then after they the fish show me what legs they like best have a few more to share.
After viewing upon retrieve you wont believe how real they look in the water (clone).
And it makes it also hard to keep an eye on the frog when a realistic pattern like dark bullfrog.Being older I like the poison dart, the fish do as well.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
I appreciate all the insight Mule, I already have a massive collection of frogs
2 Bronze eye 65 Midnight black
2 Bronze eye 60 Midnight Black
2 Bronze eye Popper Midnight Black
1 Bronze eye 60 Black widow
1 Bronze eye 60 Natural Green
1 Koeppers Jr Northern Leopard
1 Koeppers Dark Leopard
with the addition of the Bass Frogs I will need to lose a couple of these before restocking. (I may get another Northern Leopard in Koeppers because they did a good number on it tonight)
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
I as well had a few like three fulll plano boxes of spro, bully Wa,sumo.tournament depps.
It does not replace them all but many, for starters those that are three years old using the skirts need skirt replacement, there is no frog currently made for skirt replacement and or any tool to make it easy, there fore about 100 bucks or more of frogs are sitting awaiting some bright individual to invent a tool.
One of the reasons i got interested in the designer bass frogs as mentioned quick change leg system, that it is in 30 seconds can change, not only change it out but also change its action and or looks.
Cost is about same as a spro, skitter legs pkg costs about what 1 horny toad pkg does and will catch more fish then the horny toad pkg prior to wearing out,but they do need replacement therefore spares on hand.
So many ways to rig it can tie direct to front like any frog or have the front hook in,double hook stinger in back or single using a small s hook and 1/4 tubing to keep it straight.Like a depps then only not over the back but behind it like spinnerbait trailer.
Hardest part getting over the hype those front hooks wont work, they will providing they take it,use of the stinger hooks is like when adding to any other bait like a buzzbait it does permit at times some fish you would never had stuck.
Is it a frog to end all frogs so you can toss out all the others -no,they just wont be used as much.
With clone legs its slower more realistic, floats low and stop it those legs trigger and spring back often triggering a reaction, with any of the skitter legs its fast covering the water as fast as a spinnerbait or buzzbait.
When you do order more order a pack of extra wire shafts, double hooks(stinger),wire type weedless matzuo if you desire to replace original hook
Then you can have spare made up and ready,or shafts with parts ready 30 seconds youve changed.
Have fun with them fellas, just keep an open mind and experiment till you find what you like.
PS keep them seperate as those former frogs skirts melt,no known reaction of plastics just the former frogs do or i wouldnt have 12 awaiting skirts.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
i don't know if you have a tough time with your frogs staying in one piece like i do, but z-man's frogs are amazing with the elaztech. i've caught more than 20 bass on a single frog, and for me that is saying a lot, since usually 5 is the max. they are cheap as well, just don't use the zman hook designed for it, they seem to be crap.
Re: Ken Dauberts Bass Frogs
You will catch over 20 bass with each set of legs, havnt heard of an actual frog wearing out or going to pieces, some have been in use for years
They arnt soft, dont tear easily, legs may after 20 bass, most likly at contact point where being held against the body.In my case taking them on and off has worn mine more than bass have, one has to be carefull to line up same holes,or one makes more.
But still using first set of skitter legs and about 20 bass off it.4 to a pack but each with a different action, after you develop a favorite possibly may be able order to order just action and number all the same of that favorite.
Mine is the one that looks like a horny toad on steroids or turned and subtle.
Or as it came as a clone.
Doubt if I was getting 3 bass off of horny toads.
It will be in your box a long time long after the others are useless,as legs are replaceable.
