Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
According to the news report a man (Age between 50 and 60 years old) died today after he fell out of his fishing boat and drowned at the South end of Blue Grass Pit along Boonville New Harmony road.
Four people who were driving down the road by the pit noticed that a man was in the water next to his boat and struggling to get back into the boat.
Two guys swam out to this man be he was unconscious when they reached him. They got him back to shore and their friends had already called 911.
He died at the scene and could not be revived.
Be careful out there guys and anyone can fall out of the boat and get knocked out and drown unless you are wearing a life jacket that will hold your head up out of the water when you are unconscious.
My heart goes out to this man's family and friends.
No names have been released as of yet as they still have to notify his family.
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
Update: The man was trying to launch his boat and lost control of the boat and went into the water after the boat. So I suspect he was not too far from the launch ramp when this happened. That's why they were able to reach him so quickly. He was still in relatively shallow water. Although that area drops off into 10 to 15 ft of water not far from the end of the launch ramp.

Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
sad day, i'm going to buy a rope to hang off the tree that is there by the ramp so people can tie there boat off. i hope somebody doesnt steal it. i'm going to go after work today
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
I'm wondering if I ever met this man before. Did he fish at Bluegrass a Lot? He had an older boat from what I saw on TV. I think that they TV showed his boat where it drifted over to the East side of the Pit from the Launch ramp.
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
If it is the guy I'm thinking of then yes I'm sure you've met him. I couldnt tell for sure if it was his boat or not. He fished out there more than I do. He was also a extremely nice guy and always took the time to come over and speak with me.
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
These pits desperately need a dock that boats can tie off on! It is difficult to launch a boat alone sometimes. I feel for the mans family and wish them all well.
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
I'd like to see a dock there also. I lauch my boat by myself all the time.
Until they get a dock I'll just continue to use a 75 Ft long rope to help me launch and recover my boat. It make the job so much easier and faster.

Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
i went out and tied some ropes up, they were red white and blue and somebody cut them all.
Re: Man drowns at Blue Grass Pit today
I use a retractable dog leash. Takes up musc less space and easier to mess with than a rope.
