Re: spinnerbait technique
You can use them a lot of different ways.
Yo-yo them deep.
Slow roll them deep.
Burn them up near the top like a buzzbait.
Throw them up beside lay downs and work the out to deeper water.
A big colorado bladed black one throwed on a dark night is good too.
Cover a point with them fishing fast to hit the active fish.
They are more versatile than a crankbait (IMO) as they are far more weedless and can be fished slower, although not stopped.
I used to have a few of the short arm Stan Sloan weedless black ones with a big colorado blade that I would intentionally toss into the emergent weeds on a small lake at night. I would pull it out so that is fell right at the edge of the weeds. You would either pick up a fish on the fall or within the first couple feet of the weeds. And it was usually a very good one to boot.
Re: spinnerbait technique
I fish them mostly up in Minnesota and up there color of the skirt can make the difference in catching 25 or 5, and it could be a small difference sometimes. I also believe that a twitch of the rod or pause the bait several times in your retrieve will get you more bites.
Re: spinnerbait technique
Best way too learn them watch DVD by KVD and next time you go fishing leave every thing but spinner baits home.Find 1 that works for you and buy them only.I have 1 color that i throw now and buy every one i can find.BassPro in Nashville hasn't stocked them but Gander Mountain has them Booyah opps now the secret is out............

Re: spinnerbait technique
Bought a white Booyah from gander in BG and the dang rubber band that holds the skirt on was dry rotted. First cast I nearly lost the skirt. After that I pinched a chunk off a slider worm and slid it up the hook to hold the skirt on.
Gander must not be following FIFO (first in first out) or let their stock get old.
Went to Bass Pro for the replacement and bought all the tiny brush hogs they had.
