I've had to move to the Louisville Area for my job, and I was wondering what you guys think are the best bass lakes in the area. I haven't fished any of the lakes around here, and was curious what you guys thought......and why.
Barren ?
Rough ?
Nolin ?
others I'm forgetting about ?

those are all solid lakes that can produce a good bag of fish...don't foget about green, another good lake...taylorsville and guist are closer but both can fish tough at times
Don't over look the creeks like i did till this yr.I caught nice fish at all those lakes but never got into the 6lb range.But on a creek i have caught some nice SM now and know there are bigger than what i caught.

I'm assuming that you mean creeks off of the Ohio River ? Or is there somewhere else I don't know about ? I learned how to fish on a creek, and they will always be my favorite.

I live in Bowling Green so off Barren River,which i havn't fished yet but know there are some hawgs in there too.
For really good numbers I'd say Nolin is the best bet......I think most guys on here will agree with me and have seen several days where we'd take a full day and catch over 100 fish...If you're looking for better size I'd say Barren or Green would your best bet...Green is my home lake but I think Barren fishes easier than Green....Depending on the time of year and how you like to fish (deep, shallow, crankbaits, soft plastics) I would think one of those 2 would be my choice....You can usually look around the board and find reports from the lakes and make your decision off that....Orrr just take a few extra hours and drive on down to KY/Barkley
If you are going to drive to Rough or Nolin then leave a little earlier and hit the best lakes in Kentucky as well as the United States - Kentucky and Barkley
Louisville is an awful place to live if you like to hunt and fish. I burn up the road to do what I love....
The best bass fishing is about a 3 hour drive
My top 3:
1. Ky/Barkley
2. Dale Hollow
3. Barren River Lake
Taylorsville Lake is great for anything but bass...great catfish and white bass action to be had. That's where I go to fill the freezer.

I completely concur with this post, this is how I feel exactly. I burn the fuel to and it burns my wallet.............:(
If you go across the river to Patoka lake in Indiana the fishing there is great. Nolin is a good lake as is Barren. But Wood Creek over by London KY is also a great lake.. Just fish them all and see which one is the most productive and easiest to get to. The ohio river isn't bad if you go up in the creeks. But there is always a chance of it not being fishable because of high or low water. Also this time of year Cumberland is nice since all the party boats have stopped for the season.

Fishing for 12" keepers isn't the most fun in the world, but it can feed you fishing hunger a little....if you catch a 3 lber, you've done something on that waterway. Not too difficult to get a limit most days, but getting a limit to total over 5 lbs is the hard part.
Just stay away from green river all the fish has left..lol!!! Just jokin.
You can have some great days at green and some bad days,,but for most you will always catch fish. A great lake if you like flippin an pitchin plastic...
