Proof that College sports is ALL about $$$$$$
So Oklahoma and Texas are staying in the Big 12 for now because the PAC 10,12 or whatever it is today says that Texas did not want to revenue share. Says that Texas wants to keep all it's Bowl money and not share with the other teams in it's conference. Conferences are supposed to take all Bowl money won and put it into a pile then divide among the schools in the conference. Which means Kentucky has gotten a portion of the revenue from all the football bowls and shared a portion of the Basketball money. Texas did not want to revenue share and since USC and UCLA already have special deals in place where they get more money than other schools in the PAC??, it wad decided to not let Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma St to join. Now Oklahoma says it will stay in the Big 12, provided they fire the commissioner and make Texas share revenue from the Texas Longhorn Network. Missouri and Texas A&M both say they are joining the SEC. Who knows if this will ever end. Is it about tradition, NO, rivalries, NO, conference affiliations, NO, geographics, NO, ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR, YES YES YES YES.

The problem lies in the fact that this is not what colleges and universities were designed for. They were not designed to have athletics as a money making machine.

This is getting way out of hand.
I aint been keeping up with much of it but saw where some teams also want to leave the Big East.
If I was Uk I'd leave the SEC and join the Big East!!! Huge for B-ball games,,,start playing Louisville twice a year in B-ball!!! Be the easiest way for them to beef up the football program because they aint ever going to win squat in the SEC.:D

Thing is, will the Big East be around? As far as beefing up the football program, playing weaker competition does not make you a better football program. It may make your record look better but not a better program. Plus UK would lose money because it shares in all the Bowl money that all SEC teams make. When powerhouses like Bama, Florida, LSU and such keep winning BCS titles and big time bowl games UK gains $$$$ from this. The school playing in the bowl game gets a percent off the top as a participation fee to cover travel expenses and such then the rest goes in the pot to be split among the rest of the schools. I think I read somewhere that it was like 30% to the participating team. Take a $10M bowl payout and that is $7M to to pot for the one game. Counting all the SEC teams that make it to bowl games, which is ridiculous at the number of bowl games, and the pot has to be in excess of $20M every year. A lot of money to be a doormat in the SEC

Well, you have to have something to offer students so as to fill those empty classroom seats and get the high level tuition. Whatever a school spends on athletics is usually an investment with an exceptional return with each new freshman class that comes through. The more national attention you can get, the better......which is why tv time is so important.
I remember going to a UK college recruitment day while I was in high school; about all I heard was how wonderful the basketball team was, the rich heritage that I could become a part of, and blah blah blah......I'm sure that appeals to a lot of people, but I was more interested in the quality of the education I would be receiving, what opportunities I could expect with that education, the faculty and so on....needless to say, I found the University of Louisville to be a much better engineering school than UK.

But Louisville could not talk about their great basketball program and rich heritage because you first have to have one before you can brag about it. I could not resist, way too good to pass up
