1979 mercury 115 hp

bought a boat with this motor and having a problem and was wanting to know if anybody has had a simular problem. after a long run and trying to come back to idle motor dies every time but can accelerate out of gear and get started again. replaced plugs and new primer bulb and hose assy but having same problem. could the idle be too low causing this or is it something else ????????. thanx for any info jc

Could be fuel pump, diaphram type. Easy to replace, not expensive. I have an 81 inline 6 115 and replaced mine. Sounds like it could be this.

either that or the carbs are dumping fuel and the mixture is to rich to burn causing the engine to die.
