Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
I was in one of the tourneys at Nolin this weekend. We went out at Wax. Pre fished friday found most fish in the creek bends. A few on the main river. Dog creek was the most productive. Everyday the bait changed friday was spinnerbait and crankbait, saturday was buzzbait and whacky worm, sunday was all whacky worm. Ended up with 20.25 lbs for second palce and big fish 3.50lbs. Of course we had to go through 125 fish to get that many keepers. Also as the water was dropping each day the more dagerous it got. By sunday people were having trouble getting out of the ramp.
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
me and the wife where on nolin sat. from 2-6 pm. fished in the red rock area and caught 8 bass total but the wife caught the biggest being 3 lb. i thought the bass would back off the banks with the water dropping but all 8 bass came within 5 foot of shore.
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
I would appreciate some clarification. I know they are drawing the lake at the moment. Based on the above report where they launched from Wax, is the water getting low to the point that some ramps are not able to be used safely? If so which ones should be avoided and which ones can still be used? I may fish Nolin this coming Saturday.
Thanks!

Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
You can launch at the state park, the dam, and Moutardier for sure at winter pool. I assume you can launch from Wax and Dog Creek also, but I cannot say with certainty. The main problem I encounter is, if fishing alone, you have to beach the boat on the ramp, because the courtesy docks are on dry land. I prefer Moutardier in the winter because it is a 4 lane ramp, so beaching on the ramp doesn't interfere with other people launching. I also go to the state park because it is almost never very busy, and the second lane is hardly ever used because it is a very narrow ramp. I fish Nolin year round, it is usually not frozen over too bad, even in the colder months. The longest I went was 1 month, January, this year because it was too cold.
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
Dog creek ramp dry at winter pool. Might be able to access until middle of nov. Depending on how fast lake gets to winter pool
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
Also Wax is getting harder and harder to put in at winter pool.
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
I can't say about other ramps but I know Wax was getting more difficult by the day. Also you have to stay out in the main channel if you want to go up on plane other wise be careful you can hit a hump under water and tear off your motor or the bottom of your boat. Also the fish are moveing daily. We only had one spot that kept producing. Up in Dog Creek is where we consistantly caught fish. We just looked for steep banks that had deep water close.
Re: Nolin Report 10/22/11
When Nolin is at winter pool you MUST stay in the main river channel. If not you will end up hitting something!!!!
