KY Lake Report

Just got back from KY Lake. Fished fri, sat, and half day sunday. Found fish in the backs of the creeks and bays chasing huge and I do mean huge schools of shad both gizzard and threadfin. Water temps were 60 early warming to 65 later in the day. Could not get a topwater bite at all. Most of our fish came on the lipless crankbait in less than 5 FOW.managed about 50 largemouth with about 5 around 3 1/2 pounds. found a few fish on the ledges but most were in the backs of the bays. Square bill crankbaits along with lipless seemed to work best while the jig and shakyhead worked on the ledge.

Just got back myself. Managed a few LM 10 or so all weekend and the biggest dang carp I've ever caught. Thought I hung the world record until it never swam fast....just heavy. I tried everything, everywhere. As much bait as I saw, I figured I'd be slaying them. Just not the case. Ohhhhhhhh well. Gorgeous day to be on the lake.

I fished Barkley thurs, fri, Sat. Thursday: Brutal wind! did mange to catch 20- bass total, with 5- keepers, biggest being a 3 lb smallie. Fri: caught 15- bass only 1- keeper & Sat: Caught 25- bass w/ 5- keepers, biggest being a 3.5 lb largemouth. All fish caught on lipless cranks, little crankbaits, or spinner baits. Fish were caught in the backs, off secondary points, or flats. Not a great trip, but better then fishing in Indiana!

Just like my report said last week...some days are good and some are slow. We struggled yesterday after the morning bite to just put a few fish in the boat....today we had two limits and a bunch of short fish and left them still biting on a 5 hour trip with best 5 at around 17lbs..biggest was a 7lb big girl...fished the same place both days in a creek...bottom line is the fish are there and they will eat when they are ready. Our fish today came on spinnerbait, swim bait and square bill crankbait. We had 3 fish in the boat at 7:30 this morning...including the big one...not another bite until 11:30.....then they turned on.
