Re: fall fishing question
I love soft plastic jerkbaits, LIKE SLUGOs!!!! i have been using them lately and they have really worked out. I think the water temps are changing and the bass are starting to move deeper and as there moving you can find them around stumps about 6ft deep right now. i have been fishing this one stump with slugos on are lake and every time i can pull some for 4 pounders out from under it! i could be wrong but the bass havnt been hitting on top of the water. i threw a crank bait that was 6 foot depth dive and cuaght a decent 3 pounder then found that stump and started throwing a slugo and letting it sink down to that stump and they are nailing it one after another!:cool:Good luck!
Re: fall fishing question
thanks for the info but the past couple of years i've noticed that the fish move shallower this time of the year. it may be just at the lakes i fish which are nolin and rough river but we catch fish anywhere between 1-10 ft off the bank in no more than 8 ft of water
Re: fall fishing question
I really like a SLUGO. I've had a lot of luck fishing them on top too. Got to make sure you get them straight or they'll just roll around.

I agree.... this is the time of year when they do come shallow to feed up on baitfish. 6 ft. is pretty shallow though.... Sounds like a magic stump!!!!
Re: fall fishing question
Zoom Super Flukes work great in the fall! I like a Zoom Super Fluke weightless on a 5/0 EWG Gamakatsu.
However, sometimes the bass will just swipe at the tail and not hook up....when that happens I have to resort to a hard jerkbait like a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 SP or a Slender Pointer 97 MR...either one should do the trick.

Re: fall fishing question
Another reason you see them using fluke type baits is water color....the water has to be fairly clear to use them.....they are great shad imitators...they would be great on the Alabama Rig:D
