DESTIN, FL
Anybody ever been to Destin, FL fishing? I go to FL to fish in the gulf about every 5-6 weeks and have a blast catch; a lot of fish big and small wear you out every day 150-200 fish. I normally go out of a place called Cedar key but this last weekend I went down to Destin, FL and it is awesome there. In Cedar Key I go to a wreck 30 miles out and stops in between for amber jacks, grouper, cobia etc. But in Destin you can go 2 miles and start catching them, 20 miles gets you to the mother load. It’s 1.5 hrs closer and don’t have to go out as far in my boat, plus it is really pretty there with the white sandy beaches and clear water. I have a friend with a condo on the beach I can stay at, so guess Destin will be my new fishing grounds.
Just curios if others have been there fishing or not.

Re: DESTIN, FL
Been fishin it for around 15 years,we have a condo behind Pompano Joe's. I fish FT.Walton pier, the jeddi's and the bay area along with surf fishing at night. Love the place but it's growing up fast.I did a half day charter last year and caught some Kings ,been die n to get out on a full day just alittle pricey. An interesting fact I found out was all the large rocks forming the jetti's going out of the bay were brought down from KY.Luv it down there plus it's alot shorter drive. Chuck

Cool, we ate at Pompano Joes Saturday night actually, the food was good. The condo I will be staying at is Destin Towers closer to the jettis and bridge from where you are at, close to the Back Porch resteraunt.

Re: DESTIN, FL
I fish in the rodeo there every October. We stay just east of Destin at the Beach House Condos on Scenic Gulf Drive. It's a gated complex that's clean and reasonably priced. It's only a 5 minute drive to Harborwalk Marina. Make sure you visit Half Hitch Tackle. Great place with a friendly staff. They are always glad to pass along tips and "whats biting" info.

Re: DESTIN, FL
I here with the wife (and daughter and grandson next week) through a week from this coming Sunday. Staying in the Sandestin Resort. Would anyone care to offer suggestions on fishing the area around Destin/Sandestin Resort in the bay for trout and reds. Will be limited to the shore. Grandson (soon to be an Eagle Scout) will especially appreciate any help? Thanks.

If there's a pier closeby then just get some frozen shrimp and a popping cork and throw it out there. Go to any tackle store and they'll be glad to help you out. If you like casting then a small gold spoon would work very well. Keep in mind that a trout has a paper thin mouth and if you set the hook very hard at all you will rip the hook out.

Re: DESTIN, FL
One of the guys I know down there said the jetties are really good even from a boat so you can get them from shore. Go to Dockside Marina about 1/4 mile from bridge and you can get to the jetties in that area. Under the bridge is good and also jetties so I would assume you can do it from shore. I saw people fishing there when we were going out and coming back in. Like someone else mentioned early go to Half Tackle I went in there and they were very friendly and willing to help they are very close Dockside, stop in and ask them. You can get a license there as well. You do have to have a license even when fishing from shore now as of 09. Shore line license is free for residents but non residents have to buy a normal salt water license $17.00 for 3 day unless 65 or older or under 16.

I've never been with them but there are a lot of great boats and first class captains in the Destin area. We always charter with Capt. Mike Knight onboard the Knight Rider. Capt. Mike is a excellent fisherman and a gentleman too.
