Does anyone use this foot controlled trolling motors from W Mart? Are they reliable? Also what thrust size would I need for a 1995 17 foot Javelin fiberglass. Thanks

I have the 45 lb thrust foot control from Walmart bought beginning of 2011 ,no problem so far have it on 15 foot fiberglass fishing boat old and heavy and it does fine. They all come with 2 yr manufacture warranty,or you can add walmarts for about 20$.hope this helps

If I were you I'd look at bbcboards.net in the trolling motors forum where there are some good used ones for sell as you definitley need a 24 volt system for fighting the wind. There are plenty there.

24 volt system for sure. Depending on the total weight of your boat including the outboard I would have at least 55#'s of thrust and if your boat is heavy a 80# thrust unit is not out of the question. Sometimes you need that extra power to not only go forward but to stop and/or turn quickly as well.
