is that a skipjack
If you say so. I thought it was a shad, but I was not sure. I saw a lot of fish schooled up on the graph, that may have been what it was.

Yes definitely a skippie. Catch lots on cranks and other fast moving baits. Lots of fun on light tackle and excellent striper/catfish bait.
Re: Harrod's Creek Report
You can make a decent amount of money if you catch enough skipjack. The stink up anything you put them in though
Re: Harrod's Creek Report
Definitely looks like a skipjack to me...also called a blue herring
Usually can tell by the mouth - looks like a baby tarpon! :)
Man, it would take a lot to convince me to fish the river right now! You guys must have wanted to go real bad!
Re: Harrod's Creek Report
Looks like good bait for Cumberland River Stripers in about four or five months from now.

That is what I told my dad, I thought maybe it was a blue back herring. It wasn't too bad out there, got a little cold when the wind started kicking up. It was more of an economic decision, didn't think it was worth $75 in gas to go down to Nolin and possibly not catch much. The river is way closer.

That's funny because that's the way I look at it too! Why drive to Nolin or Taylorsville and burn the extra gas when you can have the same crappy fishing close by! Ha ha ha!

I saw picures at Taylorsville last week and it looked like chocolate milk down at Settler's Trace. You couldn't pay me to fish there right now. I barely catch anything when the fishing is good down there, let alone when it is cold and muddy.
Last year was pretty tough financially for me, $75 in gas to go to Nolin every weekend adds up. It only costs me a dollar or two to go to Cox's Park. Just got to remember to bring your 9mm if you go by yourself. I have seen some unsavory individuals there before that were eyeballing my boat. Let's just say when they saw me walking up open carrying my XD9 they scurried off.
