Cumberland Bass Sat 02/11
The daytime highs are calling for 29. I know its gonna be slow fishing but I have a chance to go and I'm not gonna miss it. What would you all recommend throwing for the bass right now? I assume hair jigs, blade baits, shaky heads.....any other thoughts?
Re: Cumberland Bass Sat 02/11
Jerk bait will work well with 10 to 15 second pauses between jerks. And make sure it doesn't want to float to the top during the pauses. If you notice it doing that just upsize the front treble hook and that should be enough to do the trick. Good luck out there!

well since you did not mention the F&F that you don't through it, fish can be caught on the baits you said, if I could only have one bait it would be the F&F, we were their 2 Sundays ago and had 15 from 10 in up to a 5 lb largemouth, the water was stained, could only see a white/chart fly a foot and a half to two feet, the key is white/chart, 8 feet deep, should be perfect for the fly. ...JMO

Cool....thanks for the info guys! I'll report back and let ya'll know how it goes.
Re: Cumberland Bass Sat 02/11
I was down there last weekend and we had a nice limit of smallies on football jigs. Caught 2 smaller one's on Alabama rigs. Everyone we talked to said the fish were biting in the creeks but we caught all of ours on main river channel bluffs/banks. Water temp was in the high 40's and there was a little stain around Jamestown.

Just reporting back like I said I would. We went yesterday (Sun 2/12) instead of Saturday because of the wind. Went up a major creek, near the dam area, almost to the back and parallel cranked bluff channel banks with 6XD and wiggle warts. caught 11. Nothing big, biggest was maybe 3 pounds. caught 1 sm, 3 spots, and 7 LM. It was extremely cold but it was still nice to get out and feel a tug.

I also meant to mention that none of the bass caught had any visual signs of parasites.

That's good news. Of the 19 I caught the other day none had it although I didn't really look at some of them close enough. I have heard of some scattered bass with the parasites in the mouth (like the stripers). Thanks for the report..that's a good day man.

gary the water today; the end of caney had ice around the edges, in places it went 10-15 feet out from the bank, sent tim (bassmater) pics. wolfe and caney mid-creek were in the mid 40's , color was perfect. you would do well with your FNF right now. best 5 today were between 16-17.5 inches on blk/chart hair jig. if i can catch em on that hair jig you will slay em on the FNF. did manage a 40 pound beaver on an xcalibur twitch bait, him i the boat though, he won the fight, (sent tim a pic of that adventure too lol)
