Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
Going to Cumberland for some family time but would like to do a little fishing. I will be staying on Indian Creek. I may take my brother out for some bluegill fishing. If I go out by myself I may do some bass fishing. General areas / baits would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
I was striper fishing this past weekend, but my buddy did fairly well fishing off the creek points back in a little. They really liked where the fresh water was running in as well. He was using plastic and jig/pig. Good luck, be careful of all the boat traffic!!! could get a little crazy out there. I would look for a no wake zone and early in the morning before the skiers get out!!
Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
Might want to cruise by Harmon Cove at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.;) The "Fishing" is Realllllllly good down there! expecially on memorial day weekend.

Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
As far as fishing goes it was really tough last weekend. We had a small club tourney and only 10 fish was weighed in.
Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
I launched from the dam this morning and bluegill fished from 6-10 am. Could have fished longer but I ran out of crickets. Morning temp was 73.5 and 75 at 10 when I left. I fished by myself and probably had 30 bluegill but only kept 17 of the better ones. Of the 17 only 2-3 were the big 10" bull bluegill that Cumberland is know to produce. The other 14-15 were good eating size so I am not complaining.
I was fishing pockets and coves that I have been bluegill fishing for several years on the lower end of the lake. This was my 1st trip this year and I think I missed the peak of when the huge bluegill are up protecting the nest, but it is still fun catching decent size bluegill. One thing I noticed that I have never seen in the past was the area I fished had many, many, many small mussels. Eevery bluegill when cut open was full of mussels. The bottom of my live-well had about 1 table spoon full of mussel shell regurgitation. I fished from 3ft - 20ft deep looking for the big bulls but never found them. About all of the eating size gills came in the 8-12 ft range.
As a bonus I had 3 smallmouth's on crickets. All were in the 13-16" range and that is a blast with 4lb line and an ultralight. All of the smallmouth were 12-15ft deep on the side of a point not directly on the point. I also had a couple of very small KY's. If you want to just stretch you line you should have no trouble finding some gills. As for the bass I gave up on Cumberland a long time ago. When using artificial bait I get my bass fix at Green or Barren... good luck
Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
Just go early before the lake gets crowded and/or go way back in a cove. Avoiding traffic would be my prime consideration. Don't worry though I have fished memorial day, fourth of July, poker run day many times. I just quit about 9am and head to the ramp.
You will know when it is time to go. First you'll hear a couple jet skies about 8:30. Then a guy will go by in typical ski boat 8:42. Then another one 8:50. Then you wil hear one of the loud boats 9:02. A big cruiser will then be in view. When you hear the second loud boat pull in your lines in. lol

Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
As for bait in Harmon Cove in the afternoon we had a lot of luck last year with a water ballon slinger and some chartreuse bead baits! :D
Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
In Harmon, I always use a "tube bait". You might try one in the "tequilla" color.
I've seen a lot of "bobbers" in that area, but never had much luck with what was under them.
You can try the worm, but you'll need to be close to structure, and it's going to be tough because a lot of other guys will be using the same pattern and presentation.
And I agree, Harmon will be the "Honey Hole" this weekend.
Re: Cumberland Memorial Day Weekend
That is the Party Place since they lowered the lake and they can't get to 76 Falls.
Good Fishing and watch out for all those Idiots !

HA HA HA HA!!!! I didn't have much luck with the worm method either. wild turkey came out with a great new liquid bait I may try this year. I found out last year that for whatever reason the "fish" in that area are attracted to loud music and beer they start bitting around 9am and are pretty much done by 8 or 9. Of course you may get lucky and get one later on at night. They are ussually not the keepers though!
It is weird also that the more expensive your boat is the better they bite... can't imagine why....
