Fuel gauge issue... Any help?
I have a 93 skeeter and my fuel gauge isn't working. When I turn the key the needle jumps but stays on E. I took the fuel sender out of the top of the tank and turned the key back on and moved the float arm and the gauge moves to F. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I don't know what is causing it not to read the fuel level in the tank. The end of the arm is like a cork and didn't know if that just got full of gas and it's too heavy now to float with the gas or what. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Since the guage moves when you manually move the float arm, I'd say the guage is okay, and you are right....the float might need replaced or the hole sending unit if they don't sell just the float. I'd look at the sending unit and see if you can pick out a maker or a model number, and go from there.
Wish I could help more, but have no idea what sending units Skeeter used.

They don't look too expensive, if thise type would work for you
Re: Fuel gauge issue... Any help?
Hi, I am pretty certain the opening in the gas tank and the screw pattern is standard. Bass Pro Shop sells sending units, I think around $30 or so. It is a pretty easy swap-out --- disconnect the old one, put the new one in place, and connect it. To be safe, you could measure the top of you existing one (diameter of the top) and note the screw pattern and then compare it to the BPS one before you buy it. But like I said, I am pretty sure they are all the same. You just want to be careful when you put the new one in that the arm and float is toward the "open area" of the tank so they can move (i.e., not pointing toward the side walls).
Good luck,
Jeff

I am having same problem with my Rpm gauge! Jumps when I start the boat and then nothing!
Re: Fuel gauge issue... Any help?
I had the same problem with mine, your cork no longer is floating. I replaced the cork and it works now. Got a cork at the hardware store, they had some big cork stoppers. I had to shave it a little and drill a hole in it to put it on the arm of the sender. Not too hard to do.
Coincidentally, my boat is a 93 model too. I guess they just get "gas logged" after so long.

First check out wiring connections on back of gauge, could be a loose wire. If not, you need to get your charging system checked out, typically when a RPM gauge is not working properly or you are getting false readings it is related to the charging system, the rectifier or could be a stator problem. Charging system failures can lead to fires get it checked out.

This might help, could just be the tach itself, or a fuze. Agree retifier, voltage regulator, or Stator can be causes too. In thoses cases, a trusted shop mechanic is the way to go.
Re: Fuel gauge issue... Any help?
So I took the fuel sender out and stuck the float in a bucket of water and it floated. I then took some sand paper and cleaned the sender wire post and nuts and end of the wire and stuck it all back together making sure it was all nice and tight and it seems to be working fine. Wasn't much corrosion on the post or wire but I guess just enough to keep it from working. Thanks for all the help and advice
