i know someone who said they had a friend years ago that had caught one over 10. he is dead now, but the guy who told me is a good friend of my dads and he doesnt BS so i believe him. There are some hogs in nolin thats for sure. I caught one this year down there that was every bit of 8 pounds.
The state of Kentucky doesn't keep lake records, only state records. What you might be able to do as go back and look at trophy fish registrations and get an idea of how many and what size of big fish come out of an individual lake.
Back in the late 70's early 80's, ray meredith caught a 10 lb 4 oz. He fished pro for a while, came in like 5th or 6th in a bassmaster classic, now i think he has a car lot in hart co. I had heard the record was right at 11 lbs... Tr
back around the early 70s, there was 2 fish mounted at the moutardier marina behind the cash register facing each other. the man working there told me 1 weighed 9 pounds 13 oz, and the other weighed 10 pounds 3oz, and he had caught them. the largest id ever caught was 6and a half, and those 2 were huge compared to the 1 i had caught
There was a 9lb 2 oz caught just a few years (5 yrears or so) back out of Bartons Run in May. Based on the reply's not a record, but it was the biggest bass I have heard of in recent years.
Thanks for all the replys ....WE have a camp at Wax and I am headed out in the morning for a full week of fishing ...
I can tell you this the Bluegill have really gotten big down there .Mike Day told ( before he passed ) that the KDW stocked a small minnow that only gets a couple of inches long to help the bluegill and it really has . I remember back in the day how hard it was to catch some handsized gills but now they are very common.
In fact some folks come from Ohio just to fish for gills .My daughter loves to catch them and she loves eating them even more . I have always heard that a lake with a big shad population , has trouble growing big bluegill .
We always fish for gills during the day then the LM right before dark and @ night
WOO HOOO I CANT WAIT FOR VACATION !! ONLY 15 more minutes and I am off for a week!
jfw, If you need some help with those bluegills just let me know. I might be available to help control the population of them 'gills! :D

Im glad Im not the only one who has noticed this. Ive grown up on Nolin now for 25 years and I can never remember catching a single gluegill worth keeping. I went last year for a few days and in about 5 hours time we had over 60 hand sized bluegill. It was a blast with the fiance and them little nuggets are tasty!!! Hope they continue to stay this way for a long time. Have fun, Im about to go down myself for a few days in a couple weeks.
