Lowrance or Humminbird
I plan on updating my electronics on the front of my boat. However, I am torn between the two options Lowrance HDX 7 and Humminbird 798 hdsi. I currently have a Humminbird 598 cihd in the console of the boat but would like to update it someday also. I have even thought about swiching the new out with the console and putting the 598 in the front. What would be a good system with minimizing the expense?

The only good thing about humminbird is the Down scan Side scan are built in. You need the Stucture scan unit with Lowrance, another 500 dollars on top of your fish finder. I found humminbird a little more user friendly as well. I am looking at a 858 for my front deck at the moment. cheapest i have found is $ 729 on ebay new without the down scan 800 With. I have both the side scan and the down at the dash. just trying to figure out if i need it up front. I think you could get a pretty good deal on the 700 series . I know humminbird is running a cash back promo until june it think.
good luck

Humminbird
I have a 798 ci si & traded the transducer for a trolling motor transducer & in my opinion it's of way more use to me at the bow than it ever was at the console any day. If only having one si unit is your plan for now it will be of more value to you up front in my opinion.
