Ford f-150 Triton V8
I'm looking at one of these trucks, and thinking about buying it. I have a question, does any of you guys have one of these trucks. Ford f-150 with the V8 Triton engine. auto trans. question, how many miles per gallon do you get on I-75 empty,and also towing a bass boat. thanks for any first hand info.

Man, I love my F-150. Although I don't have the Triton V8, those 5.4 motors are the bomb. There are some issues with the motors right now though. I guess spark plugs have been a huge issue.
Look up F-150 5.4 spark plug and read away.
Other than that, they are the BOMB. I wish I got better fuel economy, but hey, it is a truck :)
With my 4.6 v8, I get about 15-16 highway unloaded at 70-75mph....I get 17-18 at 65mph unloaded.
Towing, I get about 13 - 14 no matter what speed.

I have a 2010 F150 with the 5.4L Triton V8...this was this last year of the trusty old 5.4 in the F150. I believe now you can get a 5.0L, an Ecoboost, or a 6.2L.
Anyway, the 5.4L has a lot of torque for towing. I love my truck. I've never been a huge fan of the transmission in this rig (sloppy adaptive learning rear end, in my opinion, though Ford says it's fine). The only issues I have had have been piddly...like a rear defroster line going bad, or a seat heater shorting out. No engine or transmission issues at this point. Truck has 37K on it now.
Unloaded, on the interstate, I get about 18. Best I can do. In fairness, I have the front end raised about 2" with a leveling kit (looks better), though I'm not sure that really affects gas mileage much at all. I have stock size LT275/65-18 tires on stock wheels. I do have a hard bed cover. Otherwise, I'm totally stock. Around town, honestly 12-14. I tow a 16-foot Tracker Grizzly, but honestly don't even feel it back there. Mileage drops a touch on the interstate. Obviously, this rig is not near as heavy as a big fiberglass glitter boat. I've towed a couple of big bulky dual-axle trailers with it, in towing mode, and mileage dropped down in the 13-14 range on the interstate.
I'm a Ford guy, so I say go for it. If I had cash to burn, I'd probably get a new Ecoboost.
My uncle has a 1977 F100 that has been rebuilt and repainted about 6 times. It's still going strong. He also has a 1997 F150 (the 3-door extended cab model) that he just repainted and dropped a 5.4L Triton in it...it had nearly 300K miles on it when the motor finally went.

My current F-150 has 98k on it 2006 model. NO major issues since day one.
My previous F-150, I put 250k on it, then blew the motor after losing an oil pump at Dale Hollow. DROVE it home that way, parked it at the dealer and told them to put a new motor in it :).
Drove it that way a few more years, and then purchased the current one. Had it 12 years.
My next one will be the eco-boost.
LOVE those trucks.

About 18 on the road with no tow and 12 or so in town.

me too , 5.4XLT. about the same milage.
spark plugs have been changed at 90k miles. $ 698 and some change. 2 plugs broke off on each side. will not ever own another truck that has simular issues. other than that its a great truck and ive had no problems ( knock on wood )

Had a 1999 Lariat 5.4 triton with 200,000 on it and loved it, but was kind of leary pulling both horse trailers and boats with that many miles on the automatic trans.I was going to keep it for a farm truck but was still able to get a pretty good trade in on it soooo.I didn't change the spark plugs in it till 120,000 and it seemed like I got worse gas mileage with the new plugs.I have a 2007 f150 crew now with the same engine and like split said just doesn't shift the way I like it, but have no problems engine wise.As for gas mileage I have to agree with what has allready been said. I bought my husband a new 2006 F-150 with a Triton V-8 engine, with all the bells and whistles for his birthday. He absolutely loved it but, unfortunately, I was pulling a U-Haul trailer and the brakes locked up and it jackknifed and rolled over 5 times. No way to repair it, totaled, and almost totaled me. Emergency (or someone) had to cut it apart to get me out. It got 24 miles over the road and 18 miles city driving with not much change pulling the boat - the camper lowered the gas milage.
A week later my husband went and bought a new 2011 F-150, Triton V-8 engine with all the bells and whistles. He loves it and says it gets great gas milage for a V-8. Most of his driving is over the road, 25 mpg, (at about 75 mph) and he has had absolutely not one problem with it since he bought it about 1-1/2 years ago. We both drive using the cruise control which I think helps to control the gas milage.
They have great lumbar support that really helps after a day of fishing. You can adjust it to fit an aching back. lol

2003 [B]E[/B]150 Chatteau VAN, 130,000 miles. Irish wife and need a place to sleep sometimes.
5.4, blows no blue smoke, all plugs changed at 125K miles, then over 12 months had 3 different coils on the plugs go bad one at a time. Goes 3k to 5 k between oil changes and does not eat even one quart of oil from oil change to oil change.
5.4 rates at 255 HP @ 4500 RPM, but a whopping 350 @ 2500 RPM. It easily pulls by 4700 pound plus rig up the hills at Jamestown, and has no problem on any wet ramp as the torque comes in smooth and progressive.
16-17 highway (65-80 mph) and 13-15 in town or towing the rig.
4 speed auto overdrive trans......no issues and only do a fluid and filter change once every 50K miles
Only engine repair was a starter solenoid at 85K miles.
