Lake Cumberland Bass Report

Yes, LC fisher persons on focused on spring stripers, but thinking I just might check out the Bass situation this coming Friday morning (tomorrow). Water temp is reported to be 62 around the Grider area and I would think the lake trash from the upper Cumberland should have subsided by now? Greasy Creek was running fast and clear as I went over the bridge this AM.

Still debating where to fish; Indian Creek, or the 3 forks of Indian, or Greasy Creek. Considering the price of gas these days, me pocket book leans toward Greasy, as I could launch out of Pumpkin Creek (State Dock).

Anyways, if I get out, I will report back.....,GOOD or bad (:p).

Anyone have any recent experiences with the bass (SM/LM/KY) on LC they would care to share, then much appreciated! :):)

I fished a kayak tournament there Saturday. Fishing was a little slow but I caught mostly spotted bass and a couple largemouth at the mouths of the smaller coves. Some guys had a lot of luck with spotted bass off of the submerged trees by dropping plastics right down in the branches. Some smallmouth were caught but the general talk around the lake that weekend was that they were on the nest. Hope that helps. Let us know how you do!

Thanks MUCH for the report! Any indications the bass were/are on the banks or point near shallow banks? I assume the fish you caught were full of eggs, any have a RED/BLOODY TAIL?

OK, time for the Ole man to make a decision. Greasy it is. Thinking I will hit the sloping gravel banks about mid creek first (those how know Greasy know where they are) (If not, PM me and I'll provide GPS) then adjust accordingly, with searching up and down creek for a pattern.

The LM I caught had eggs, and the spotted bass seemed like they hadn't spawned either. I fished pumpkin creek from the ramp back to the very back and caught most of them on the medium to shallow sloped points/cove mouths.

Well, I gave it a shot this am for a couple of hours. Got a later start than expected, didn't get on the water until ~7:30. Launched at Pumpkin Creek and went around to Greasy, and then down to a cove on the right, just before the J Town water intake. Looked good, worked it hard! Should have stayed home.

Next, went down past the intake, to that shallow gravel bank on the left. Tried that for a while with no luck. Wood/Grass debris was blown all along this bank, 20 feet from shore line to creek. Had to clean lure every cast. Enough of this, so's just take a boat ride and check out the new LC at 700 foot plus.

Went all the way to the back of Greasy. Strange to see what were 20 foot trees with their tops sticking above the water line. Could't resist and made a few cast into the trees. Naw, nothing.

So best I can report are on are lake conditions. Water temps this morning ranged from 68 to 70 degrees from the mouth to the back of greasy creek. Water was stained, but not muddy. HOWEVER, LOTS OF WOOD AND DEBRIS on the water; BOAT BOW BREAKERS AND PROP BUSTERS So if you are on the lake within the next few days, take it slow and consider adding a Chain Saw to your tackle box! Not like Vegas, what in the creeks doesn't stay in the creeks!
