Doing doughnuts in gravel lot at Bluegrass

Another fine morning at Bluegrass FWA fishing the back of Ringneck pit when someone roars into the gravel parking lot throwing up a cloud of dust . Ok someones launching their boat . Nope nobody . Get a little concern so motor towards ramp to check the truck . Hear 2 guys talking so I keep fishing . Guess they decided not fish so they did a couple of doughnuts in the lot , throwing dust/gravel on my truck , then peel out on the road yelling "you hit his truck !" as they thunder off south . Went up to check truck , its OK just dusty . This is the kind of crap that ruins it for everyone . Well I was so pO'ed I loaded the boat and left . Followed the way they went checking lots and found them fishing Otter pit , a black/gray 2 tone 1990s Chevy Silverado parked as far south as you can launch . Thought abot doing my own doughnuts on their truck but heck with it . They had a small plastic 2 man pontoon boat and were very loud acting drunk . Drove around looking for the CO but didnt see him . I fish by myself alot and think Im going to get a carry permit and arm myself .

I hate when people do that! It makes the parking lot surface so rough and it lasts forever. Now if they were doing that while I was in my truck I'd have to shoot at something. :) You can do damage not only to someone's vehicle but put an eye out. I had the same thing happen to me once at the North Loon Launch Ramp. I had launched at the South end of loon and motored up to the North End and was fishing the little lagoon off to the West of the North Ends' Launch Ramp and parking lot.

A guy in a truck came into the parking lot and turned around but when his truck rear end was pointing in my boat's direction he hit the gas and threw a lot of gravel into the water. I was far enough back out in the water that the gravel missed me but the idea that he tried to spray me with gravel was what pissed me off. I could not get to my gun fast enough before he was gone.

We need security lights and cameras every where to stop this type of behavior as the probability of someone getting this on video or a CO actually seeing this happen is remote as best.

BTW: You can always call the Warrick County Dispatcher at (812) 897-1200. The dispatcher can contact the IDNR State Conservation Officers by radio. They work out of the Warrick County Jail Complex up in Boonville, IN. That's where they store their vehicles these days. But it may take a while for a CO to come out to do the investigation.

By the time they get to your location at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife area it may be a few hours or so. We need more CO's for all the territory that they have to try to control.

Kids don't think or care much about other people's property when they are out trying to have fun and drinking while driving.

I've met a guy who was at Otter Pit in the same area you are describing and he was carrying a pistol on his belt openly. We talked for a while but I never asked him about his gun. He was a pretty little guy and I could see where he might feel the need to carry openly in an area like Bluegrass where he was alone and not a very big guy. He reminded me of some of the Horse Jockeys by his stature. Very petite.

I need to get my riding mower out of my truck and take it to the repair shop Monday. I can't take the boat out with the rider in the bed of the truck. It broke on me Saturday morning while I was cutting grass. I could not fix it myself as I needed a air operated impact gun to remove a bolt that holds the pulley on. I needed a longer breaker bar and two men to remove the pulley. So it's going to the shop where they have the proper tools to do the job.

I went to Lowes and Home Depot last night to look and price an air impact gun and a bigger air compressor. All the big air impact guns require around 5 CFM at 90 PSI and my air compressor only delivers 2 CFM at 90 PSI. So it was either get a smaller impact gun or a larger compressor. The smallest compressor that delivered about 5 CFM was a small Dewalt Compressor that cost about$300. And the impact wrench that was 1/2" drive cost a little over $100. I could not see spending $400 when I could get the lawnmower fixed for less than $100. Though if I had bought the tools and did the job myself I would have only spent a net of $300 extra to get the job done and then I would have a better air compressor and a good air impact tool to do the next job or jobs. In the long run I would save more money. But you have to have money to save money.

haha. You are so right. Funny you mentioned that and I forget to put that in my post. As last night I ended up going to lowes and bought a 4 ft long aluminum conduit pipe for just such purposes. And then I spend another few bucks on a longer 1/2" drive ratcheting socket wrench. The stupid thing cost me 69 bucks but I'll not be in this predicament the next time I need more power to take off a nut or something. But $69 is a lot of money for a socket wrench don't you think? Oh well I charged it on my VISA card and still have the receipt. I can use it and then take it back to the store and get my money back. Or I'll just take it to the repair shop and get it done there. They said it would only cost 39 bucks to do the job with the added cost of parts. Every one else in Newburgh and Evansville and Haubstat wants 75 dollars and hour to work in the Snapper Rider and they can't tell me how long it will take to do the job. Perhaps an hour .... perhaps it may take longer. They can't guarantee me a time frame over the phone. But the other shop said it would only cost 36 or 39 dollars to do the job. That's a lot cheaper than 75 bucks. And hopefully the part cost are the same no matter where I go to have it fixed. I'll find out tomorrow.

I'll keep the long aluminum breaker bar so that I can slide it over my other socket wrench handles to increase the leverage.

I still can't get the nut off the blade on the rider mower. I have a 3/4" socket to take the nut and bolt apart to remove the blade. There are two of these 3/4" heads by 1" long bolts that I have to unscrew before I can take the blade off. I have to take the blade off so that I can attaches something to the arbor to hold it still while I use the breaker bar or the air impact wrench at the top to get the pulley nut off. It's a two man job and I don't have any one to help me to this in a timely manner. So off to the shop it goes tomorrow. Why is everything so hard to do and so complicated? So they can make more money off me and you? I guess. I want easy to fix stuff not hard to fix stuff.

Saturday was not my day. I got half way across town and then found out that I forget my wallet. I had to turn around and drive back home to get the wallet. By that time it was too late to do anything but have some drinks and relax.

I can always use the breaker bar on the tire lug nuts as they use an air impact wrench to put them puppies on.

Seems like an awful lot of money just for a simple socket wrench. I bought my 36" breaker bars (1/2" and 3/4") on ebay for like 20 bucks total:cool: But engineers apparently don't want to make anything anymore that doesn't have to be taken to a shop to be worked on. The DIYer is about to become extinct because of engineers that make it too hard for us (or practically impossible)

Yea your got that right. It's 24" and the head swivels In one two different directions. The left/right with the ratchet and then up and down on another pivot point. Perhaps that's why it's so expensive. it might be made out of Platinum or something or I just got ripped of big time.

I too the mower in to the shop to day for this job. I'll take the $69 wrench back to Lowes and get that taken off my credit card. its' too long to fit in my tool box anyways.

Nothing PISSES me off more than when someone buys , uses, and then RETURNS a tool.....I call ********.

Now, there is nothing wrong, if you buy, use, and it is the wrong tool, but in your case, you KNOW you're taking it back, and in my mind that is just as good as theft.

See that word permanently? I would hardly call taking a tool back after it is used theft, more like borrowing. Besides, if I buy a tool, thinking it is too expensive for what I am using it for, or it is a combination of being too expensive and not exactly the right tool for what I want, and then use it and take it back, there is nothing wrong with that. That is what a return/exchange policy is in place for. :rolleyes: But to each his own I guess....

I never used the tool and I am keeping it anyway. Geeze you get too excited too fast! I still may take it back as it's too big and I fear that it being a ratchet type device it would break if I put too much pressure on it. And that's why they made it with a 24" long handle. But I doubt that the ratchet mechanism is going to hold up in the long time.

I said that I took the rider into the shop Monday and only worked on it Saturday before that. So there is no work being done on the lawm mower since Saturday morning and I didn't buy the tool until Saturday night. It's still brand new and never used. I did take the stupid plastic thing off the tool so I could see how it worked and put a new socket on it to make sure it would do the job if I needed it. I like to know what I'm buying before I get it home but at Lowes the put plastic type locks of or something on the sockets and the socket wrenches.

I did have a breaker bar in my shopping cart Saturday night but I put it back after playing around with it and seeing if I could fit it's handle inside the 1/2" aluminum conduit that I bought and will use as a force multiplier on my own breaker bar that I already had at home.

Do you get mad at people that use a tape measure at the store to measure something in the store and then put the tape measure back on the display? If so then I'm guilty of doing that.

But I'm not guilty of taking a tool home, using it and then taking it back after I get the job done. Sorry if I mislead you. I did think about it though. :) But it was just an idea and never carried out.

What I think is a crime is charging $69 for a simple socket wrench just because it's got a longer handle. Perhaps the ratcheting mechanism is made out of titanium or something? But I doubt that. It's just over priced. But hey, it's only money and I can't take it with me.

Amen. Thankfully I buy most of my stuff on ebay, unless the local hardware store has a good deal.

Got home and remembered that when I finished cutting the grass with the self propelled snapper that it was acting strange. It would continue to move forward even after I let off the level that engages the self propelled drive.

So I looked at the thing and noticed that the drive shaft was not level anymore. The bearings had fallen out where the end of the shaft was held in place. I was able to fix this myself easily. Thank god for that. The new bearings were less than 10 bucks and slipped into place quickly and easily.

At least now I can still cut my grass with the Snapper Self Propelled lawn mower until I get my Snapper Hi VAC rider back from the shop. They are only 5 days behind right now and everyone else said that they were about two weeks behind. Scotty's is pretty busy this time of the year. And the place I took the Rider to is closer to home.

I hate cutting grass anyway. If it's hot again this summer maybe the grass wont' grow! I don't mind when the grass turns brown and doesn't need to be cut. LOL. I can go for a couple of weeks if it doesn't rain and it's above 95 Deg F. I love winter as the grass is not growing. Falls a lot of work with all the leaves that have to be mulched off the yard. My mom's house has a bunch of older maple trees that require a lot of work in the spring and fall.

Now I have to find a new gas hedge trimmer for my next door neighbor. I borrowed his Troy-Bilt Model TB25GHT and it broke while I was using it to trim some of my mom's schrubbery. The gears were shot and three different certified repair shops said that it cost more to fix it than it was worth. So now I own my neighbor a new one of equivalent worth. I figured out that he paid about $180 for it three years ago. They don't sell these anymore. After talking to all the Troy Bilt authorized repair shops I can see why now. They were cheap and made to throw away. Not commercial grade and the parts to repair them are over priced and hard to get I guess. I was surprised that no one would repair it for me.

Anyway I found out from one dealer that the TroyBilt and Roybei are the same as they are made by the same manufacture and just have different lables on them. So I'm thinking about giving him about $100 to up to $150 to help him buy a new hedge trimmer. I think that fair as it was used and was about three years old when I used it.

And when I first asked him if I could borrow it to trim some bushes he at first said that he didn't have it anymore and it was at his brother's house. His favorite excuse when I ask to borrow stuff. I let him borrow my tools all the time. He tried to keep one of my hammers as while I was helping him fix his deck his son had gotten it out of his tool shed and was carrying it around. I asked him about that hammer a while back and he said he didn't have it. And then he tried to lock up my magnetic pick up too that I bought to get the nails out of my yard. He took his old deck apart and asked me if he could burn it in my back yard where I burn yard waste. He didn't want to burn the wood in his yard for some reason. Perhaps it was because he was too lazy to take the nails/screws out of the wood and didn't want them in his yard? I really didn't want him to burn them in my yard and he said that he would get the screws and nails out of my yard after he burned the wood up. I've heard that before. But at least I got my magnetic pick up tool out of his tool shed before he could lock it up. To be fair maybe he was keeping in in his shed for safe keeping until he could find the time to come over and clean up the nails out of my yard. That's probably what he was thinking. He's really a pretty good guy and neighbor. Which is why I'm going to pay for a new gas hedge trimmer for him. But I'm not going to get him a $350 Gas Hedge Trimmer. That would not be fair to pay that much for a unit that was much better than the one he let me use.

I would think that they would put a shear pin or something like that in these hedge trimmers to protect the gears in case you tried to cut a limb that's too big.

Oh, yea. When I got the hedge trimmer at first he tried to tell me he didn't have it and I gave him that look. He knew that I let him borrow stuff all the time from me so he laugh and said he was only kidding and that yes I could use it. But I'd have to get it running first. He had an old spark plug in it and it would not start. He tried to start it for 15 minutes before he tired out. I said let me work on it so I took it home and removed the spark plug and cleaned it up with a file and some sea foam. I used Sea foam and carb cleaner in the hole where the spark plug was and then cleaned the air filter up too. After all that work it finally started. Oh yea I had to mix up some new gas and throw the old gas out. It was sitting in his tool shed for a while before we tried to start it and there was no way it would start before I cleaned it up. Once I got it started the first time it ran good. It was working pretty good until I accidently hit a big limb in one of my mom's evergreen shrubs. I could not reach that shrub with my electric hedge trimmer as it was too far away from any outlets at my mom's house. She's 87 and needs a lot of help with her yard work. So I drive out there and help here with the yard work and other things. Sandwitch Generation I am. At least I don't have the kid anymore. She is grown up and moved out of town and has three kids of her own now.

I have a lot of stuff that I could sell someday. One of my other neighbors like to go to the Storage Place sales and buy stuff that people default on. He takes all that stuff home and sells some of it on Ebay and the rest at his yard sales.
