It would not trim up which could be a problem for trailering your boat home. Which got me thinking how many people running bigger outboards know how to release the pressure on the trim if it should fail? Lucky for me I had a screw driver handy two turns of a screw backed out and was able too get home and replace a 20 buck relay. Nothing like making a 10 mile run back to the dock looking like your plowing snow.
Had the same thing happen to me last year when fishing the KY River. Like you, I have a smaller outboard which makes it easier to move by hand.
You could have swapped the top and bottom relays to raise it.

Yep that works too if it is a bad relay which was my case. wonder how many know you can do that or where the relays are located?
Happened to my buddies boat two years ago. It wasn't the relay though. It was the motor and it wasn't easy to get to. There was a screw on the side of the motor that would release the pressure and allow us to raise the motor to get it on the trailer.

I had that happen to me on my 2006 opti a few years ago at Dale Hollow.........
Trim motor went out in the Down position. AND don't kid yourself. You can't "always" reach or release the pressure with that screw.
WE tried for about 30 minutes, and then finally ended up removing the tilt pump, and the lifting the motor.
It SUCKED.......
Good thing my good friend Embrey was with me, otherwise, I'd still be on that **** ramp...... :)
