I'm pretty sure we can all agree that this time of the year is probably the hardest time of the year to catch bass. So with that being said what is your go to strategy to catch them? I either slow way down and pick everything apart or put the trolling motor on high and cover as much water as possible.
Buzz,crank,buzz,crank,pop,crank,pop.......
last year I had great luck in August and Sept early with a frog or a walking bait. A day like today with overcast conditions you could KILL them on a buzz around flats or wood cover. If the sun is out strong pick apart every shady spot like under bushes or any piece of wood you can. Also deep crank points for schools. All have produced for me hope this helps some.

I hit shallow water early and work my way out deeper as the sun rises...of course I don't leave fish that are biting so if the clouds move in or wind picks up or I have alot of shade I usually stay shallow longer.
Today we had fog, monsoon rain storms followed by clouds and soft rain and then party cloudy. The fish we caught were 5-8ft deep around drops and creek channels on the main lake. We used jigs, C-rigs and cranks. Moved shallow a few times and picked off a fish or two but always went back deeper since the bite was much better.
When it's hot I like the deeper fish on drops, structure, points or anything off the bank. I think the fish are more reliable and IMO...easier to catch...(not easy just easier).
If I am fishing in thick mats of vegetation like down south I do stay shallower and punch those mats....around here i like to flip/pitch some nice trees, bushes or bunched up weeds....anytime I see them.
This is just a tough time of the year for me. I know in August and September there is always high pressure making the bass cling to structure but it seems early morning and right before dark is the only time i can get bit.
I think it's a weird time. You just never know. A lot of times in aug fish will bite in the very backs of creeks again. It can get confusing. If I'm having trouble I go as far upriver I can go. A lot of times you can get on em pretty good. I don't fish deep a lot. I don't have time to process through that much water. So I just do what do what I'm most comfortable with. I would rather flip a jig way up a creek than get skunked trying to fish miles of ledges. But the Ohio river is at my back door. It would be different if lived closer to Barren river or Kentucky Lake. They would provide the incentive I need to dredge the deep stuff
Thinking about goin out today/tomorrow with fisherman14. We will be fishing a small farm pond that holds at least 2 5 pounders and several 2-4's. I know there's alot of small bluegill in the pond so thinking imitating them might work. To give an idea the pond is a circle and about 20 yards from one side to another. Just want to know what you all think I should do to catch a big one :cool: Thanks, drew

When I fish farm ponds Im real careful about walking up to the bank. I don't barge in and stand at the waters edge and sling baits. The fish can be spooky so I take that into consideration. Not knowing the lay of the pond and if all I had was two rods with me I would have a small crank-bait and a green pumpkin lizard tied on. Sounds like the pond has some good fish in it!

I'm pretty much the only one that fishes it and I never do good. I don't think I've ever pulled a fish outta there! But my friends have. I have had many fish on but always seem to lose them on my weedless frog. The only way to get better is fish it more than the others! Was thinking maby going topwater because of the rain!
