I wish people would quit lumping all union members as die hard liberals, i am far from it. i do work at a union shop now but that has not always been the case. i worked in a merit shop for for 20 years so i've seen both side of the fence. There are some bad apples that the union's protect that arent worth the effort but thats not any different than the bosses son drawing a check for nothing are the office **** ass in a merit shop , i've seen it all. I believe people should be held accountable for their own well being. But unless you have worked in a large manufacturing plant or assembly plant where you are just viewed as slave labor , you can't compare this to a small merit shop. That CEO up north could less if your sick, ill or over worked. just make the numbers. Do i feel bad for the money i'm paid ? hell no. not with the corporate creed that goes on. people say union employees are over paid, what is it worth to work on the line for 30 years 10 hours a day, and when you retire your body is wore out. bad knees, bad back etc. The labor cost on a union made vehicle is about 10% of the of that car. That CEO made 23 million last year is he worth it. Corporate creed is what has hurt this country the most, they send jobs over sea's for a bigger profit to line their pockets. Is that car you bought any cheaper since it's built in Mexico? no.
The middle class is screwed any way you go. Democrats are buying the poor vote with entitlements and the rich are paying off the republicans.
kydog I am not a union hater all together. One of my very best friends on planet earth is a retired job superintendent for Sullivan and Cozart. I also feel they have a place in certain situations and their founding principles were needed at the time and worthy. It is not a fix all for every segment of our working men and women and many do fantastic at non union work places.
There is a happy medium on this subject and I will meet you in the middle because much of what you said was true and tempered with common sense. However the idealogy that ''SOME'' have that the unions are God and without them the poor morking stiff somehow is getting screwed is wrong wrong wrong. Yes they are great for some types and genre's of work but it isn't necessary for all.

The last several years has seen weakening unions, a push for right to work laws, lower pay scales and more people dependent of government assistance and the right wing wants more of the same.... 2+2 never equals 4 to these guys who put the blame on the folks at the bottom... Better wages= more people being less dependent on government handouts and a better overall economy but they are blinded by the constant barrage of BS by the fox newes of the country... I have a good bit less confidence in our president than some do but mostly because I think AHA has done damage to those who earn their living in order to provide healthcare for those who don't have it but AHA is here and I suspect here to stay, the right wing is making noise about doing away with it but I think that is just noise..... Anybody that bothers to look will find out red states are the biggest users of AHA and it would not be in the best interest of republican leadership to snatch that out from under the same folks who voted them in office...

I can't imagine you are worried about right to work this does not limit unions it just keeps them from making dues mandatory I think everyone should have the right to be members or not. If unions are as great as you say everyone will pay their dues.
