I intentionally leave mine blank. I get asked for an ID probably half the time. The other half, because I'm a ****, I'll remind the cashier that there is no signature on the credit card and they should ask for my ID. They look at me like I'm from home office in a sting operation or something. LOL
What amazes me is the people in line that go LOCO because they get asked for their ID. I welcome that and appreciate a cashier that asks, because it's only protecting me too!
In order to not challenge the cashier's intelligence more than necessary instead of "CID" I print in black magic marker, "SEE ID". When a cashier does ask for my ID I thank them.

bottom line
n NPR this morning,it was brought up that improving security is expensive. The card companys would rather increase profitability, than start new costly programs. Many places won't take checks, cash is great, but carrying large amounts is risky. The few times I'm asked for ID I say thank you. I'm still waiting for a Christmas present that was due 12/21/13. Makes me wonder, was it "the thought that counts". It was paid for with a debit card on line, so I'm told.
