No kiddin man! I fished more for small bass last year than for anything, and removed at least 100 under 16" Going to enlist some help this year.
The crappie have me confounded. I know they are reproductive. I watch them spawn, I catch them off the nest, I've seen their fry, but literally I have never caught a small one. I've caught them on buzzbaits, spooks, jitterbugs, worms, minnows, jigs, baby bluegill, but never a little one. All big fat and happy. Fished other ponds where you could catch a bazillion crappie about five inches long and nothing else.

I volunteer as helper!:cool: A couple years back i would have to agree with you on the anti catfish, but after you catch some you get hooked. If i were you i would try taking out the crappie. I think they are going to be eating machienes and do t mix with your bass you have. These fish are competeing for the same food and taking the crappie out would allow you to not only have fatter bass, but more in quantity too! Thats my opinion, drew

I love my crappie. They have names. Aretha, Elvira, Shania, Bessie, JoJo, Bertha, and Maurice, would all be missed terribly. (Sadly, big Alice took a hook a lil too deep last year, and became a sammich). I would have a hard time doing that Drew, I'm not gonna lie to ya! I guess the **** musky would just eat them anyway, but I wouldn't have to see it ya know.

Have you thought about shocking the fish and then taking out whichever ones you want? If you can get a old hand crank telephone, two twenty foot lengths of #12 stranded wire and a couple of short lengths of chain you'd be in business.

I would love to shock it. I can't think of a better way to cull a lot of fish. I've heard of several ways you can make one, just haven't really looked too far into it. Will be doing so tonight!

I can't share my expertise until I do several trips of C and R bass fishing in that pond to get a better feel for the situation.

They seem to do just fine, in fact thrive in the resevoir in Franklin. Deepest part there is 16 foot and thermocline sets up about 8 foot deep in summer.
But I agree that a pond is probably not the best for them.
