A lot of companies are..........I'm just saying that those that are not up to par yet are NOT going to increase their wage pool. They pay what they pay, and an artificial rule like a "minimum" wage isn't going to magically change what the can pay......
Combine everyone's need for instant gratification with the lack of help in most places and there you have it. I now deal with customers on a daily basis and I can tell you our store doesn't have enough help. A healthy dose of patience would go a long way. Then you get the customers that want to throw a fit for 10 minutes because they didn't get that extra 10 cents off of something that they think they deserve. I'd suggest to all to work a day or two in retail if you havent already it will change your outlook - I know it's definitely changed mine.

I was waiting on this and I am not THAT guy. I am patient and I do care about other people but waiting almost thirty minutes to get checked out on any given day is absurd. Now if there are special circumstances ok, but just the lack of obvious help is another thing.
Here is a prime example of what I'm talking about. It's three weeks until Christmas and there are 28 check outs in Walmart and 5 of them are being utilized. Fluke you say, naw its that way up until the day of Christmas in many locations.
Is that acceptable, I ask you???
I can't speak for wal-mart but that is almost always the case with them and has been for years. At this point everyone should know the deal with them and expect a long line there. That's the main reason I don't shop there and will not in the future. Time is important to me, and saving a few bucks is not. For others saving the extra money is definitely a higher priority. At my particular place of employment I constantly hear "all cashiers to checkout", they go, and the lines are still long at times. The ratio of helpers to shoppers is just too slanted to the side of shoppers. It's just the way it is. I imagine if people took a stand and quit frequenting places that constantly have long waits corporate would get the message once sales started dropping - but that is probably a pipe dream.
And I hope you realize that I would not direct anything but some Louisville trash talk towards you mark I've seen you on the boards enough to get a good idea of what you're about.
I've had too many consecutive long waits at various places to expect anything less. It's why I shop online or just not shop all together. Any time I get out in less than 5 minutes I do a little dance on the way out.

Just noticing a trend is all and I hope I didn't come off as you were calling me out as I did not intend that. You have always been a solid level headed poster on this site. Besides anybody that can put up with all day wades with Billy has to be alright...kiddin of course Shadrap....:)

The trend is definitely there. I'm just afraid it is unreversable. If the explosion of online shopping couldnt reverse it I can't really think of what will. Going out to eat is the same way. There's times when I wanna just get something quick and get out and then when it doesn't go that way I really have to tell myself to chill. Sometimes it doesnt work and I'm wound tighter than di ck s hatband. With all these people constantly out and about it really makes me wonder if this so called recession is not just make believe.
I miss billy. And Ron, Jeff, Q, glenn, mando, vince, et al. and all the late evening shenanigans that were rodeos at stillwaters. Life intervenes though, and we all get busy carving out our own paths.

LOL If all you guys were there recently and didn't see me in fly fishing you were either there Friday or Sunday. Those are the only 2 days I have been off other than Christmas since Black Friday.
Mark, I can explain a little about what might have happened this weekend. It doesn't make your experience any better, but it might help. Obviously from black Friday until Christmas eve are so busy that at times it makes you want to lose your mind. After that, for a few days after Christmas you get the returns and exchanges. This weekend it was coupons in the mail for the 1st through the 4th where if you had that coupon you got employee discount pricing. It would be physically and fiscally impossible to staff every register. Add on to that the fact that everybody is convinced that this price was marked lower so then the cashier has to radio back to a department to get a price check. In the meantime the people in that department are busy assisting other customers and cannot answer the radio immediately. I understand your frustration, but trust me.....there is a lot going on at once.
Btw Peter was there Saturday and I sold him his first fly rod and reel, some leaders and a few flies. He can vouch for the fact that I work there.

Sounds about right Tim. We have 4 of what I term "orifices" - drop off window, pick up window, drive thru, and phone. Often times we have just two or three people and then when it gets three deep at each orifice it makes for a long wait and one epic clusterfrick. Kind of like the college playoffs - 4 spots for 5 major conferences - somebody's gonna have a long wait time - as in till next year to get their turn!
