Normally it is clear of ice in February. I usually start out just for crappies and prefer upstream from Walls ramp. There is a primitive ramp at Kings Bridge that should be ice free by the middle of Feb. The water is moving there.
Sweet thank you so much For the info. Ha that's my plan is crappie but I have a few tricks up my sleeve for those other fish. Lol

Geo
thank you so much geo that's one of my favorite summer night bite Smallie jigs. But I run the spectrum I make some pretty silly stuff too but that's party of making new baits. I also made crank baits with suspended jerkbait weights lol. Fat head frog spooks. I'm a bit nutty

I was on the lake yesterday. No ice. Put in at Lickfork ramp and was just cruising around the lake trying to learn my new locator. Saw two other boats and two kayaks. Warmest water found was 41.5.

Yes I did find some but no catches. New to side imaging so it was mainly a play and learn day. Bait balls were really evident.

Just was not into spending a lot of money on one. Found a close out on Humminbird 698 for $400 shipped so that is what I got. Was debating between that and the Helix 5. Now if I would have had a spare 2-3 thousand laying around I would have a big one on the boat.

I feel your pain.

I'm just happy to get out. Lol. Pockets are a bit lighter currently. made more than my fair share of charitable donations to the ex-wife. The two units I run are so old I'm ashamed to even say what they are. I think I used them more for confidence than to fish but they give me what I need, the bottom and fish. Lol. Ya I co-angler from time to time and some of the gear and $ is insane. But if it works it works.
