Not more people, more GUILTY people. Let’s quit blaming society for individual acts if lawlessness. The guilty can get societal support services while they are off the street in jail and not attacking or robbing innocent people.
You can stop repeat offenders by showing them the full consequences and having felt that pain they might be more motivated when we then show them how to avoid that again.
We have the largest prison population in the world in both physical population and per capita population. And you want more people in jail?
Land of the free my ass. Law and Order!

How do we get law and order without addressing this that violate that?
I think the prison population is a result of the behavior, it’s a result not a cause.
So let’s focus on the cause…. Lawlessness. And apply the fix, law and order. And then when the lawless are off the street train them to do better.
All systemic stuff aside, no matter what economic, racial, religious, or educational influences exist, the last decision to do or not do a lawless act resides with the individual. And its the individual that should be held accountable for that decision.

I would say law and order is being used and has been for a long time. The prison population shows that they are taking people off the streets.
The cause? The lack of mobility when you get one of these ludicrous charges for the rest of your life. Get a felony, and we know how many cheesy ones there are, kiss getting a job that will get you out of the mindset you might need to do some crime goodbye.
You are now a second class citizen.
That is what you want to see more of?

I agree a felony makes a severe dent, but I also agree that’s where we have to do better as a system to first give people a second chance if they truly are repentant after counseling and then with a first starter job show they are willing to get it right. With those 2 blocks checked, then as a system we need recognize the rehabilitation and make record expungements or purges available if….. if the applicant has checked all the blocks.

So we dont need to get the criminals off the streets but make a environment that allows for people make a better life more accessible? I agree now we are making progress at looking at the cause.
Its that a large majority of the country will hear someone has a charge from something silly and call them a career criminal without digging deeper. Or will not hire you because of some weed charge when you were 20. Society as a whole needs to get away from this punishment culture we live in if we want to make it better. We create an entire culture of second class citizens and then scream at them when they dont start their own companies because they cannot get a loan.
Its a joke, that only makes the problem worse.

Young people need to hear and learn this before they take the leap and commit a crime. They need know the system will hurt them if they break the law.
So in the end I don’t blame the system. Individual responsibility means if ya done it you pay the price and it’s up to the individual to adapt and overcome.
And if somebody did something dumb a while back and now have a clean record then applying for expungement atleast helps reduce the hit a bit. But still, the bottom line is if you don’t want the time don’t do the crime. It’s an individual responsibility and the system can’t mess up your life if you don’t get involved in it
