I am Electronics Engineer, but wanted to be a professional fisherman or game warden. Ended up going to Speed School and that has been that. I know some Civil Engineers ride around our lakes and rivers doing surveys.
I wanted to be a TV fisherman like Bill Dance; but I make car parts in a factory.
I wanted to be the undisputed boxing lightweight champion of the world. Did pursue that, became a pro boxer and actually fought the WBA Lightweight Champion of the World in Eppernay, France in 1991 in a non title fight.
Now am a freelance outdoor writer. For most of my life I have managed to avoid honest work! :D
Have not worked since January 29, 2007 (something to do with 27 surgeries and 511 days in the hospital), was a Plant Manager for an Aluminum Billet Manufacturer up until then. Now just wishing to get well enough so Surgeon will release me to be a Walmart Greater, but that is many moons away.
Wanted to be a successful dirt late model driver, but ended up a railroader for CSX.
I wanted to be a police officer. Now i'm a electrical lineman.
I wanted to be a linebacker for the bears! Like singletary, all crazy eyed, breaking facemasks! Quit growing in ninth grade, so now I work in a steel mill.
Wanted to be a professional musician or high school music teacher. Became an Application Developer and then Database Administrator.
What I wanted to be when I grew up? ALIVE....tough neighborhood.
Degree in Sociology was to learn to talk my way out of fights. Army career as a Tanker and other things was to have a fall back position in the event the sociology degree didn't work. Now a Army Civilian working the move of the Fort Knox Armor School to Fort Benning GA. Great job, a tanker moving "the tanker school", and counseling the folks that will miss it when its gone.
Last thing in life I want to accomplish, in the past 2 years, I've been getting close to accomplishing. Using the best of my sociology skills, I'm attempting counsel to and modify the behavior of Stripers so they learn to control their natural aggression.......and NOT eat shad.
Begged the Marine Corp to take me but they wouldn't have any part of it. (Medical issue) Been a welder/fabricator for 15 years..
I do not remember what I wanted to be, but after a false start or two I ended up with a BS degree in accounting. Took a job as a tax auditor with the state of KY. Early on if you liked to travel it was a great job. Traveled a lot from New York to California and Minnesota to Texas. It finally got to the point where it was no longer enjoyable. When I had enough years in I retired and a year later had to have a quadruple bypass, probably brought on by all the fast food I consumed while traveling.
