RE: Ikes apology
Chub, Thank God what you said about a leopard never changes his spots is not true. I think most of us have seen ourselves wise up and change a lot over time. I'd hate to still be who I used to be. And as for the flag, I'm sure he was so blinded with anger that he didn't even see the flag. He did wrong, no doubt about it, but he certainly did not purposely disrespect the flag. He grabbed the object nearest him in a fit of anger.
I do agree that his apology was probably more of a financial decision or he would have done it earlier. I guess time will tell.

RE: Ikes apology
How many of you remember when several pro's were quoted as saying that ESPN wanted them to be more like Ike. I wonder when ESPN is going to apoligize.
I do agree it is time to move on. Ike has always been this way and he will remain this way until the press stops reporting on him.
There is more to being a Pro than fishing!

"I don't remember mentioning anything about the flag"
You can't ask folks to disregard what he did to the flag. That will stand out more than a floating fish...
"So why don't you just accept his apology and drop it. He is obviously paying for his mistakes."
Because he doesn't mean one word of it....

RE: Ikes apology
I love how his supporters keep using the phrase "second chance" as if this is his first act of complete stupidity or his first dq in a tourney.None of us said we were perfect either but at least we are smart enough to learn from our mistakes and not keep making the same ones over and over again.
There a lots of people that would take the opportunties he's had and be thankful for them and realize just how good they got it and make the most of them instead of acting like we're owed it.He's had enough "second chances",its time to give someone else a shot. There are plenty of guys on tour that would have loved to have made the classic and were probably sick to see how he wasted one of the classic spots.
I'm glad that ranger dropped his sorry a$$,its about time someone told him what they really thought.I love how his apology came 4 days after the fact and only after losing money from sponsors.
Too bad espn/bass won't promote the great guys like KVD and Jay Yelas, both have great tournament stats and both are truly class acts.I hope that Jay Yelas does well on the the FLW tour this season and that someone at espn/bass has enough sense to try and get him back but i doubt that would happen, they're too busy promoting all the punks.

RE: Ikes apology
As a disabled vet and a avid fisherman, just want to put my two cents in the pot. First of all, he disgraced the sport IMO, there are a lot of guys/gals that wish they could be in the position he was that day, and you can bet your bottom dollar they would have handled it a lot different. I like the post where the gentleman states..he just grabbed the first thing he saw and took his anger out on it...so it just happened to be a American Flag. Thank god there wasnt a child close by. That flag means a lot to a whole bunch of us folks, and if it doesnt mean anything to you and if you think it should be disrepected, in any way, shape or fashion, you need to pack your bags and get out of Dodge. The guy is a punk, a spoled brat, who has been given a lot of coverage because of his actions in the past. Now his true colors have come thru. If you think he means a word of his apology you are sadly mistaken, I would assume that his lawyer drafted the apology for him. It is all about the money, he lost Ranger Boats, and no telling what else he will lose, hopefully all of his sponsors.

Hoosier Don
I'm not apologizing for anyone. Sure, he went overboard. How would you have reacted? Let me guess you wouldn't have forgot to turn your aerators on in the first place right? I mean it's only the classic and you have 4 of your fish floating in your livewell watching your hopes for another title go down the drain not to mention 500 grand. Let me guess you wouldn't care you would just say "oh well no big deal". Give me a break guys you can't put someone down until you were in the same situtation. And saying he is a jerk, have you met the guy? Well I have and he sat with me for 2 hours over a couple beers BSing about fishing. Ask anyone that has ever met him. More than I have to say for some other "Professional"fisherman that I have met.

RE: Ikes apology
This is out of hand so I'm out. But I want to make it clear that that flag means a lot to me too. You don't know me or you'd never say that. I never said it was ok. It's not. Now I'm off to talk about fishing.

You're entitled to your opinions as are we. I've never met Kurt Busch either and I still think he's a punk also...

RE: Ikes apology
Bassin101,
Did you even see the video? Ike clearly made the comment that "HE" did not turn the aerators on because he doesn't like those things, and that "they" even showed them where they were and instructed them to use them.
HE DID NOT FORGET!!!!
Also, in his interview after the DQ, he said he wasn't even sure he would fish on day two, but that he had to call his attorny.
He also kept going off saying he was targeted and he had to stand up against this to keep other anglers from being targeted.
I am guessing his attorney told him had no grounds, and as was suggested, I bet the attorney wrote the apology.
This discussion is getting really old, but for you ike apologists, at least get the facts right.
The man can fish. The man can fish really well. The man needs to learn to control his temper. I still say he is acting just like my nephew did when he was on drugs. He, my nephew, was the best kid, he got on drugs and his temper was the first sign. He got to where he could not control it, and he felt persecuted... i.e. targeted. I'm not saying he is on drugs, I am merely saying he is acting like my nephew did when he was on them.
The guy was given a lot of respect and trust. He blew that. He must now earn it back, in my opinion..... after all:
"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!"
