RE: Is it a gimic?
Garlic Dip It is always in my bag during warmer months. Maybe it's just a confidence issue, I don't know for sure. It seems to make a difference on certain days for me. I like the chartreuse color and the blue. They will change the look of a jig trailer too.

Interesting.....
I find all this very interesting. Some fishing experts, well most actually, including what I have seen of Doug Hannon on TV, say the ofactory sense of the fish is pretty well developed. But here we have at least two people who remember him catching fish on lures dipped in gasoline. I bet he won't do that again, not at the cost at the pump...LOL... anyway before I digress too far, I can imagine him being "influenced" by his sponsors now. I base that off emails I've had with him regarding line size. He clearly backed up what I remembered him saying about the diameter size of line, yet he specifically reccommended his sponsor's line as being thinner... LOL
Now I don't use scents. I have used them, I have been out fished by folks using scents, so why don't I use them? Well, I got out fished by a friend using "Kicksomebass" scent... I decided I HAD to have some. I bought some, used it for a couple of years, and could not tell any increase in my catch rate. However, I did find a mess in my boat or tackle box if I carried on other's boat. The stuff tends to be very sticky, and it stinks!!
So, I quit using it, and quit carrying it on my boat. However, I fished this year with another guy who was using scent this year. I out fished him, and I had no scent. I do use Garlic Spike IT dye, but for the color, and the fact that I love the smell of garlic. Makes me very hungry when the fish aren't biting actually. LOL

RE: Interesting.....
Probably a subject nobody will ever agree on. I can say that when Berkley first came out with Power Bait they sent me a video showing a dude in a lab coat (Rocket Scientist) cut up unscented worms and Power worms. He would first drop the unscented worm into a tank with a bass which would imediately inhale the worm and spit it out a couple of seconds later. Then he would drop a piece of Power Worm into the tank and the fish would not spit it out. Could be a trick but the film looked unedited thru this. It also showed some underwater footage of bass attacking a worm and spitting it out within about 2-3 seconds. I have found some lakes like Cumberland it seems to help them hold on longer. For some reason on Barkley, Kentucky, Barren or in Florida they will hang on to any brand for a long time. They will grab a regular jig in these lakes and run around the boat with it before you know it. On Cumberland and Dale its usually a thump, thump and you better set the hook fast. Just my observation but this has been noticed by many of my friends also. The Zoom lizard has always ouproduced the Berkley power lizard for me so go figure.

RE: Is it a gimic?
Get the Garlic spray at the grocery store. It is cheaper and does the job just as good. I have used most of those scents mentioned and have noticed little difference. The garlic is at least cheaper.

Gulp Experiment
I tried the gulp baits in Canada a couple of years ago.
The white and yellow twister tails were outfishing the other guys in the boat by a long shot. BUT the proof seemed to be..
When they got a hit the fish hit deep. (Fishing for Lake Trout)
On about 50% of my hits the fish would follow the bait all the way to the boat from as deep as 60 feet. This is amazing, in that the Lake Trout live in the 45 to 60 foot depths of the lake. The non-gulp baits were getting hit but no follows.
Same when we used the Carolina Lunker Sauce.
NOW you can call it a gimic, and you can call it an anomaly, and you can call it pure luck, but the follow was the convincer to me. IF they hit, yeah luck, but when they did NOT follow the other baits to the surface? Plus we would move the Gulp and the Carolina Lunker baits around and it stayed with the Gulp and Carolina Lunker Sauce and NOT the plain jig with twister tail.
3 days same results EACH day.
Explain that.. and not just out fished 3 to 1 but the follows that I got on the Gulp.. I dont think you can.
