Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
It's a catch 22. If people would stop using the KY board as a catch-all for anything and everything and make a better effort to post in the appropriate forums, then those other forums would get more traffic.
Again, what I find most curious is the criticism of a free service.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Well said gurl. Catch 22.
Who knows what the best way to organize this thing is. Just givin it our best shot..time allowed.
Opinions are welcome. Most, if not all changes have been the result of a person on the board asking for the change. Some of you guys and girls know a lot more about the board than I do..for sure.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Somehow I missed it too elnut that your brother-in-law had passed away... sorry man... and even never meeting you, as mhall says, since being here since last year, I feel like I know a lot of the fellas on here too. Kinda cool. Anyways, my condolences to you and yours.
My 2 cents on the board issue being discussed, it doesn't really bother me that much if OT (off topic) posts are made (especially if folks use the format of titling the post "OT: Subject here"). That's kind of board etiquette I suppose. JMHO.
P.S. GO BIG BLUE!!! :) (Couldn't resist, no disrespect meant)

Peter, most on here and me included have made a concertive effort to thank you and Jim for the free service you supply us with. Therefore I think I speak for many when I say we aren't a bunch of unappreciative ingrates hopefully. I think if given some thought by you, in this specific case maybe the post did apply and should have been left alone. As you have seen from prior posts two people, myself included missed his post somehow. Some support from his fishing pals could help a guy hurting during this tragic time for his family. In closing, thanks for all that fishin.com provides and it is alway's appreciated. Fishrboy, back off and have a heart, you made your point.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
So if we're giving opinions on this, then I think it makes a lot more sense to put posts in the appropriate forums - off topic, tournament, pictures...whatever is applicable.
It seems to me that if I wanted info on a tournament, it would be a lot easier to go to a tournament forum rather than wade through some highly unorganized clutter on one board to find it.
I realize some people view it differently, but that's just my opinion.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Fishrgurl, I agree 100 percent but the real problem is that we are all lazy and set in our ways AND ONLY HAVE ONE BOARD IN OUR FAVORITES. We forget to go to Off Topic, the Community Tacles Box, the Boat baord, etc. And that is true whether we are looking or posting.
Peter, I think part of the problem is that the way it is now, people know that if they start a thread on the KY Fishing Board even if it gets moved people will notice it because the moderators leave the thread on the KY Board and it says MOVED. That is why I posted about the 82 year old vet on the Off Topic board and then made a post on the KY board to see the off topic board.
I think all inappropriate threads should be moved to the appropriate board and then deleted entirely from the KY Board. And do it consistantly with any post that doesn't belong EVEN IF IT IS FROM A SPONSOR OR A MODERATOR. It if doesn't belong for Elnut or for me--it doesnt belong for Jim Dicken or Matt Plapp.
Once EVERYONE knows that inapproriate posts won't be tolerated CONSITANTLY ACROSS THE BOARD, they will post in the correct place and people will start looking at more boards then just the KY fishing board.
Thats my opinion,
Grumpy
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Can't we just get along and fish!:p
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
I am with Elnut on this one. I dont care either way where the posts are, However I dont look at just 2 right now. I guess i was fortunate and caught Elnuts Thank You. And once again Elnut I hope everything is working out well with you and your family but no thanks really needed man. I dont mind praying for anyone. God Bless and your family.
But it is kinda odd how quick some posts get deleted or moved almost immediatly and others dont. And the coinsidence is its usually the same people that doesnt get moved. My opinion if ya look at the topic and have no interest dont read it.
I do appreciate the time and effort put into this board by the administrators and thank them all very much but lets be equal to all.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
I am by all means not trying to be dis-respectful to anyone associated with running, monitoring, creating or inventing this board. Like I said earlier, I would happily pay to be a member of this board for I have met, learned and hopefully taught information about fishing and life in general to and from many people on this board. I get personal emails on a daily basis from guys about Dale Hollow, info on trips and pictures of fish caught, and it is nice to hear that several of them I told them a technique or specific spot to fish and they call to thank me for them catching their first keeper smallie at Dale. I log into this board MANY times a day and my point is more than validated when the last couple of posters had no idea that my brother in law had lost the battle with cancer. My bet is if the post was left here they would have known.
I will say it again, thanks to all that called, emailed, and private messaged for your support over the past several months!!! Hope to see you on the water in a few months.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Elnut, your point is well stated and so is Fishrgurl. I don't know either of you fellas but are familiar as a silent viewer (usually) of the discussion board. Just a couple of quick comments after reviewing everyone posts:
1. Elnut, I feel your pain. Lost a sister within the last year to cancer and it ***** real loud. My deepest condolences and prayers. If I busted a hernia to boot, I'd be throwing M80's into the toilet to catch crap. You're going through tough times but somehow you'll get through it (for the most part).
2. I know we all agree, although it may not be obvious is a one or two of the posts, that Peter and Jim do a great job on this site and we all thank you guys very much and any others that are not mentioned that help you out. I agree with Elnut, I'd pay for the service. I can't imagine working all day then dealing with the monitoring of this expanded board. We need to build this thing up so Peter can hire a full-time hottie to assist him and Jim.
3. Now let's all say a quick prayer to the weather God, and healing God for you Elnut, so that we can all get on the water and talk about the fishin instead of people to misapply the intent of the discussion board. If ya want to talk basketball, go 'off topic'.
Re: 10 pound Smallie at Dale!!!!
Sorry for your loss Elnut, I have to agree with you on the thread of your Bro-in-law passing....That to me should have stayed on the board for all who knew of the situation would be informed. Those who had no clue should have just ignored the thread after reading it or just passed by it completely. That would have been the humane thing to do, not complain about readng a Thread that took some of your time that you think is so precious.
The people who run this board do an excellent job and I'm grateful for their hard work.
But sometimes there are members who visit this board and have no clue of the other boards and do make posts on here that might be off subject...But who care's, give a heads up and inform the member of the other boards and things wil take care of themselves in the long run.
But sometimes Off Subject threads do need to be posted for all members to read and made aware of, as in the passing of Elnut's bro-in-law....
This Board doesn't say fishing threads only, it say's Kentucky Discussion Board, so if your going to enforce the fishing Threads only concept. Then it should be for all involved and no letting some members break the rules, sponsor or not...IMHO... FWIW...

I agree with fishrgurl 100%. Just put the post in the appropriate forum. You were not singled out or slammed. You received a ton of support and it's time to let it go. There is no need to get on a moderator for following procedure even if they missed one or two in the past.
I could understand your pain but didn't enjoy reading about your venting on church going folks and your view of religion on your last post. You went to far in my opinion. Why didn't you just email Peter and vent on him and let it go?
