Re: whats happened
Thanks Jim, I agree with you on your suggestion, there's a conservation issue for both BASS/KBFN & FLW/KBF. I guess just like the bass and other fish will do is we as fishermen and fisherwomen will have to adapt, start throwing alewife colored baits. As they do frequent deeper water, and at this time of year, the bass have a great food source, that is in easy reach, since most bass are deep anyway. And also since there has been a lot of big sacks weighed in earlier this year, in most tourneys it took over ten lbs just to look at the leader board, lot of high teens and 20lb sacks this year, most of the fish are at release spots, lol. Barren is like that, always has, probally always will be, up and down, I was raised on that lake, just wish that they would leave it full or almost full, year round. Also I heard today that B.A.S.S writer Tim Tucker was killed in an auto accident in Fla, so sad, he was a great writer and photographer.

Re: whats happened
I am not a real expert but here is one possibility. With the spotty rains and storms we are getting the feeder creeks and streams are coming into the lake very muddy or stained. I know the farmers are trying to make up for lost time with the drought and alot of them are planting secondary crops right now, they are spraying and spreading alot of fertilizer into the fields. My brother in law and I went and tryed a few honey holes on beaver creek and on skaggs well above the lake in the past few days, normally we can pick up a few keepers by wading and fishing the eddys in the deeper holes but the fish are not moving hardly at all even the bluegill are slugish we did catch a five pound carp and for a few minutes we thought we had a trophy, with no disrespect to the carp they are great fighters. I think the water temps being high and the color of the water along with the change in flow patterns on the lake has got to play a big part of the slow down. Most of the rock ledges on creek channels that we fish at night still do not have water on them, and there alot of the small springs that are now intermitent where they used to supply cool fresh water to the flats. But like I said I am just guessing Barren is like your wife some days she is hot and ready and the next look out your in the dog house and you don't even own a dog.
Good Luck.
Dennis

Re: whats happened
As for the yellow bass. I read somewhere that a couple yrs ago when the kdfw stocked alot of white bass back in barren that a couple loads of yellows got sent here on accident. i personally wish I'd never saw a yellow bass here on barren, ky, or barkley. Sometimes they will drive you nuts!!! Well, I guess I'm about there anyway, lol.
On an up note went and fished last night and got 16 in the boat. Biggest 4 1/2 one 4 couple 3s and a bunch of 2s. Broke another good fish off trying to net. So maybe things are getting better. Guess we'll see tonight at the thurs. nite tourn. Good luck, Chris.
