Re: Taking my Wife to Dale tomorrow
Chunknwind and myself just got back from 3 nights of TOUGH TOUGH fishing. So tough that I skunked the last 2 nights of the trip, which were the first 2 nights that has happened at Dale in the past 2 years to me personally. Fished a lot and caught a little. If you really want your wife to catch a TROPHY smallie, I suggest putting on a 3/4 to 1oz, Night Spinnerbait (Booyah or Jewel make a great one), Black in color and sit out on some big flats in about 23-30 feet of water. Let her cast it out, hit the bottom and start SLOW rolling it back to the boat trying to stay just above bottom. It is not a numbers technique but you will be targeting Big Fish. I had one that hit it so hard it ripped off the blade and swivel from my spinnerbait leaving nothing but a damaged o ring. Another straightened it as straight as a string and I lost one that was a really good fish when she jumped and threw it. Deeper grass is the next choice for the big ones but it is much harder to fish the grass than it is the open flats with spinnerbaits. Cast, drop to the bottom, SLOW roll back and hang on. More than one rod has been ripped from the hands of a fisherman by a Smallie attacking a Spinnerbait at night. She will love it. Good Luck
