Re: Brand New Stradic
I had the 1000 model but had to take it back. I was using Power Pro 4 lb braided and the line would not seat in the guide all of the way. When I set the hook, the bail would flip open.
Other than that is was very smooth and I liked the 6.0 speed.
Anyone else have this problem?
Have not used the new one yet, but own last years model 1000 and love it. i use 6lb mono and have had no problems like you are describing. Is the power pro 4lb equivilent? or is it actually 4lb braid. if it is than i would say that the line diameter is smaller than the reel is rated for and that may be the problem. if it is a higher lb test with a 4lb diamater than everything should have been fine.
The new stradics that just came have a new redesigned bail trip and a few other newer features on the bail, and that might be the problem as well. sorry to hear that it didn't preform the way im sure you were hoping for it to. what did the guys at the shop say when you returned it and explained the problem?

Re: Brand New Stradic
Thanks for the reply
I was using 14 lb braided, 4 lb diameter. ( I love braided line on my creek gear. It twists less and you can yank your lure out of trees with out breaking off)
I believe 1/2 my problem was a green waxy build up on the the bail just before the line guide. It was causing the line to hang up there. Quite irritating and it cost me a few fish when I set the hook and the bail flipped up.
Anyway, I have a Diawa now, using the same line with no trouble. Not as fast as the Shimano, but smooth.
When I took back the reel to Dicks, there was no problem. I asked about any other complaints, the guy behind the counter was clueless. What a surprise!

Re: Brand New Stradic
The new Stradic feels awesome! I'm liking the Saros more just because of the cost.

Re: Brand New Stradic

Re: Brand New Stradic
I just bought the new Stradic 1000 a few minutes ago from Jack at Backwaters for a new creekin' stick. It feels awesome...and the lip on the new spool is supposed to make it sling farther. He wouldn't give me a money back guarantee on that ;) , but we shall see in the creek.
As a side note, the Saros was pretty dang slick too. I come a hair of buying it instead. The 1000 series Saros has the same spool as the 1000 series Stradic, but the frame on the Saros is actually a 750, so it's a touch smaller and a touch lighter. It was almost mine, but I went Stradic instead because it just felt a little better on the rod for some reason.
This new Stradic 1000 at 7.4 ounces, mated on a custom built 6'3" medium light creek stick that's light as a pin...oh man, look out. This dude is a feather in your hand. :)
I just called my Allstate agent for an insurance policy on it...full coverage.

Re: Brand New Stradic
Brian,
I did get to hold of one of the 2500 series and that was very smooth, Steve was there and had one with him. I want to get another spinning reel to put on a new 7ft plus rod (maybe Cumara) but i'l wait and match them up in a few weeks.
