Re: goldfish for bait?
PER Fish and Wildlife Source::
Goldfish are considered established, so they can be used as legal bait in KY. We see these fish everywhere but never in large numbers; therefore, they are probably not a real threat to become established at a nuisance level.
[QUOTE=the_donger;304788]"No live fish, live bait fish or live bait organisms that are not native or established in Kentucky waters shall be bought, sold, possessed, imported, or in any way used or released into waters of this Commonwealth."
This is taken straight from the Kentucky Sport Fishing and Boating Guide - 2007 in the section Live Bait. Since there is a chance a goldfish can come off the hook and populate the waters, they are illegal.
Here is the link to the regulations if you want to take a look:

Re: goldfish for bait?
i know you can use them to determine the mood, coincidence [sp] or not i'd feed the ones in my moms pond and more often than not it was right on with the lake fish if they eat we did well if they didn't it was definitely slower. But it could be just me making an excuse..:)

My wife wants a water garden full of fish. So don't get them confused with Coi (Coy... spelling??) Dang what an expensive fish!! However, considering all the money I have invested in my bass fishing, the bass costs about the same... LMAO
Good luck.

Re: goldfish for bait?
Hey ctfshwhisker, I think that's pretty smart. Can I call you and have you do a feeding reading when I'm heading to the lake? If I were in your place, them would be some fat little fish swimming around that pond.

Re: goldfish for bait?
you have to keep them on the right diet, control method,if they are too hungry they eat all time if i over feed them they won't eat when they should.
or something like that.i wonder if i could set up a 900 fish eating report?couldn't lose anymore than i have in tournaments.:)
hey horse you think there could be something to it??or mostly b.s..

Re: goldfish for bait?
Like most input you get about fishing you have to take it all with a grain, but heck why not? We all know barometric pressure/light conditions/moon phases/water clarity/1000 other things affect the bite, checking how aggressive the pond carp are makes some sense to me.
I'm fishing a black bag tourny tomorrow on Barren, have you checked them bad boys today? If they're sluggish, I'll just bypass the bubba baits and go finesse straight away.
Seriously though, a sharp fall cool front and high blue skies could make tomorrow a finesse kind of day. I know where some fish are. If I can get the spot and get them to bite life'll be sweet. Don't think I'll cash that check just yet though.

Re: goldfish for bait?
they are eating but no thrashing it.settin on the bottom under the water flowers and around the pots.

Re: goldfish for bait?
Start those Goldfish Reports! I'll read them! Above all, be sure and let us know if they ever spawn! ;)
Oh, and I think "koi" is how you spell those expensive ones... not sure.

Re: goldfish for bait?
It is spelled Koi, the ones in my water garden are the cheaper goldfish (comets and fantails) and in the last couple of years they have really multiplied. Thinking about going striper fishin in the morning with a few
