Re: weird Fish Caught @ KY Lake
I posted the same thread on the Huntin.com/Community board and they came up with the picture of the fish... It was a Logperch for sure and here is the link if it will work.

Like I said, I had never seen one before and really a weird looking fish.
Re: weird Fish Caught @ KY Lake
Thanks for the link msg. I was looking for your fish, and I found a picture of a fish I cuaght about 2 maybe 3 years ago, and I tried to describe it here, but must have done a poor job, as no one properly identified it. IF you check page number 34, the middle picture of the Northern Hog Sucker. That is a fish I caught on the rip rap right outside of the Fenton launch ramp.

Like I said earlier, if it was a logperch, then it was the state record. I think you said it was foul hooked, so maybe that doesn't count, but a logperch that's 5 or 6 inches long would blow away the current state record.

Wow, ain't that something, I might have had a state record fish, but yes it was foul hooked in the side. But one never knows about all the different species of fish in KY waters. Next time I catch something I am not sure of I'll be sure to take a picture and measurements. Plus like I said, I was glad to finally find out what it was I caught, really nerve racking to not know. Thanks again to those who tried to help me out and did.:)
I had always heard the term drum used before too, until i spent more time in the tackle shops, and realized it is known to a lot of people as a "White Perch" Its funny all different names people will call a certain fish.
Drum is short for "Freshwater Drum", not sure why it would be called a white perch - never have heard that one before.
White Perch looks like this:

Yellow Perch is what I caught on a crankbait and I have caught many before while crappie fishing in Little Jonathon Creek. It looks like this:

I've never seen a Logperch in person before, only pictures. Looks like a neat looking fish!
I thought the yellow perch was listed in the KDFWR guide, but apparently not.
