Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
The Friday Night Big fish at Taylorsville starts May 16. I wouldnt waste my time on the three fish.
I have fished both in times past and both are ran well and both have a good bunch of guys that fish. I prefer the three fish tournament because in my opinion there is more skill involved bringing in three keeper fish compared to one. That is my take on it but we all have our preferences thats why there are two to choose from on fridays. I am looking forward for all of the tournaments to get going on Taylorsville. Its been a long ,cold , wet winter...........Jarrod
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
I agree about the skill thing. Also I just wound out that the thrusday night river tourns. start MAY 1st at steelbranch 2 weeks there and the switch 2 weeks at benson ramp.
good tournament always has a turn out.
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
I just said I wouldnt waste my time on the 3 fish because I was trying to get more boats on the Big Fish side. No big deal, I have nothing against the other tournament at all. Sorry to get your pantys in a ruffle. HAHA!!!
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
HEY NOW!
I am confused is it because of the tournament layout being one big bass it takes less skill to catch that one 3 or 4 pound fish?
or could it be that the people who fish Friday Night Open Big Bass Tournaments have less fishing skills and know that because they are at a skill disadvantage to the other superior fishermen on Friday night they are relagated to fishing a big bass tournament?
or could it be that the people that fish Friday Night Open Big Bass Tournaments simply do not care about skills, primetime, glitz and glamour and everything else that it has tried to been made into and just want to know that at the end of the night they are going get to clap, yell, hoop and holler, pat sombody on the back, shake somebodies hand, talk a little smack with all there buddies and if a little money is won heck somebody had to do it!
So if in anyones eyes the tournament and the people that fish it having less skill please show up on any friday night between May 16th and September 5th in the hours of 8 p.m. till 12 midnight and tell it to the fishermen that choose to fish worry free from somebody saying they don't have the skills to fish with the big boys.
(I have been telling Jerry Abrams he didn't have any skills for years I guess the cat is out of the bag now!)
Stop taking yourselves so seriously boys life is to short to worry about who's got skills and who don't in a fishing tournament. Just be glad you can get up every morning get dressed, play with your kids, walk, talk and pay $4.00 a gallon for a tank of gas.
...And keep off my little buddy Flippinstick

Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
nobody said that the guys fishing the big fish tournament didn't have or wasn't as skilled as the ones fishing the three fish tourn.
all we are saying is that it takes more skill to catch numbers of keepers at t-ville. sometimes it's hard enough to catch one keeper there let alone 3 or 5 or what ever the limit of the tournament that you choose to fish. their certainly are enough to choose from. Our opinon was that for the one fish tourn. you basically are going fishing hoping for a big bite.
I don't think that their are very many of them fishing the tourn. using a certain lure or bigger than normal lure with the intentions of sacrificing numbers of bites or fish caught because it's a big fish bait! Just to get the big ones.
We weren't even pickng on flippinstick. we wouldn't have said anything about the friday night big fish tourn if he hadn't said that the 3 fish was a waste of time.
my first impression when he said that was that he thought he was a pro. or that he was better than the guys fishing the 3 fish tourn. thats why I asked why he said it was a waste of time.
Now I don't think that he meant it that way. he was just trying to get more people to fish his tourn.
The bottom line is their isn't anybody on here or fishing these tournaments pros. If we were than we wouldn't have time to be on this website. I'm sure both tournments have good guys fishing them and that both are ran good.
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
Flippin Stick,
Guess you should have thought about your verbiage a little more prior to posting, huh? I would "WASTE MY TIME" on the earlier Friday night tournaments. I have fished both in the past, both donating money and winning money, and I think both are great tournaments. I believe Recon 3366 said it best for me also. I like the earlier one also due to the fact that I can not see at night. I also believe it takes more skill, as mentioned by Jarrod, to bring 3 fish to weigh in. Both have great guys fishing in them.
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
hey tracy i have got the ky river tourneys all sewed up this year. Just found a new secret river bait.....plastic explosives!

Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
don't use too much you might blow the river dry.
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
I honestly think it is easier to bring in 3 fish than 1 big one. I am far from being a pro or thinking I am but that just my opinon. I thought before I said what I did and it sounded good or I wouldnt had said it. I just try to get as many people as I can to fish DON JR'S tournament to have a better turn-out each week. Theres so many people out there that dog Taylorsville, but I think it makes you a better fisherman and alot of times prepares you for the worst. BLANKIN in a tournament. Theres to many people that take fishing to the extreme and become D***S, because they have a $50,000 Ranger or win a few tournaments, or already have money and walk around with their nose in the air. Like Bill Lamb says " Thats my point of view".
Re: ky river or tayorsville tourns?
I agree fishing taylorsville makes you a better fisherman. heck if you can consitintly catch keepers at t-ville than you can catch fish just about anywhere.
I'll tell you what is tuff to deal with is 3 days of practice and then 3 days in the tournament at lake mead and only catching 2 fish luckly both was in the tournament and not practice. or fishing lake havasu 4 days and not catching anything.
t-ville can be tuff. until about 3 yrs ago I hated it. still don't love it, not my favorite place to fish but then again after clear lake, cal. delta & lake shasta it's depressing to have to come back and fish anywhere close to frankfort.
