sorry if i up set anybody eather way if who ever is at fault something needs to be done about and by the way i am not herting for money i can go fish where i want but with 4 kids its hard to do that. so make it $50.00 a gal. i dont care i am just looking out for the average hard working man that nobody cares about. because the working man is working to pay for gas to go to work. i may not be cought up in all the political stuff and did not know that making a coment about the pres. would start this much contraversy. all i know is what I see and we had never had high gas prices till bush was command. and comming from the oil buisness it smells kinda fishey to me.
Actually the price paid for gas durring the oil embargo if the 70's was almost $5.00, when adjusted for inflation. While the price we pay today is high, it has nowhere the impact on the economy it had back then.... we still managed to grow the economy during the last quarter ( .06%... not great, but atleast its growth). Just be glad there is no rationing and lines at the pump..... now that would put a damper on my fishing.
Take care and no hard fealings....
Keep on chuckin'

Re: Gas.........
Record profits by gas/oil companies every report..............I myself would not mind paying more if it was needed..........But with record profits by everyone involved we know it is just to make more money..........There have been no new us refineries built since the 70's..............tree huggers and enviornmentalist whack jobs keep the red tape so thick not even bill gates would waste his money trying to cut thru it..........one of the last companies that tried spent 5 or 6 years in court trying to clear the red tape and just gave up..............

Re: Gas.........
If it gets high enough we could always nukem or sell them wheat and corn and rice for $5oo.00 a bushel.....or we could go to the real root of the problem GREED with the oil companies processing and delivering it to us in the first place. +

Re: Gas.........
As I said in a previous post on this subject, when Congress hauled the five biggest oil companies up to the hill to accuse them of PRICE GOUGING. The oil Execs showed that the reason they are making billions in profits is pure and simple the fact that people are buying gas in record amounts in spite of the high prices. They also showed that their average PROFIT PER GALLON OF GAS SOLD is 8.3 cent. The 8.3 cents is what they get after all of their costs have been paid. And, as I said before, if the oil companies gave up ALL OF THEIR PROFIT and sold the gas at cost: THE PRICE OF GAS WOULD ONLY GO DOWN .08 CENTS PER GALLON AT THE PUMP. As soneone else pointed out, the answer is to tell all of the "tree huggers" to shut up and let the oil companies do what they do best; DRILL FOR OIL AND REFINE IT INTO GASOLINE.
There was a great editorial cartoon in the Courier Journal a couple of weeks ago: It showed the Capital Dome and from one side the Congress was saying to the Oil Execs: YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE HIGH PRICE OF GASOLINE.
The Oil Execs said: We will drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Congress said: NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
The Oil Execs said: We will drill for oil in ANWAR;. Congress said: NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
The Oil Execs said: We will drill for oil off the California coast. Congress said: NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
The Oil Execs said: We will build more refineries. Congress said: NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
The Oil Exects said: HUH?

Re: Gas.........
I started with a 14' john boat with a 15hp evin, was so proud to get a 16' stratos with a 48sp, oh shoulda seen my face whenI got a 18' stratos OMG, I was the cats butt, 2 years ago I had a blessing and bout my 20' Ranger with a 225HO WOW, I've wanted one of these "BASS BOATS" plenty of room flies across the water so smooth then it hits me, 2 tanks that a couple weeks ago cost me $110.00 to top off - NICE! Had to have a truck to pull this beast got a Durango R/T with a 360cuin cost about $80 to top off. So to help save fuel I check my tires and unless I'm in a tourney during takeoff I run 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and I have fished 3 tournaments and been on the water making "short runs" about 10 times and I just emptied one of the 2 tanks.
I haven't slowed down "going" fishing , I slowed down "going to" the fish, I learned along time ago - and someone help here but 3/4 throttle saves almost half the fuel, my calculation may be off but the results are the same!

Re: Gas.........
Guys............While the oil companies are making RECORD profits, these profits are BASED on volume..........LOTS of VOLUME......Their average profit margin is about 7%. Don't believe me........look at their PUBLIC records. EVERY company files a stockholders report, and these are public.
NOW compare the OIL Companies with pretty much ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, and they are a BARGAIN by comparison. Places like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Kroger, Marsh SuperMarkets, Big O, Ford, Chevy, etc, etc, etc....ALL have profit Margin HIGHER. SOME are approaching 20%.
SO......while oil is EXPENSIVE, it is a relative bargain compared to others.

Red Tape and TREE HUGGERS.........you're RIGHT..........After the OIL embargo of the 70's we had over 150 Nuclear projects in some phase of development. Even around here.........You remember Marble Hill.....Well Three Mile Island KILLED any chance of EVER building a new plant.
If we had built those 150 nuclear plants, we'd use about 30% less fuel OIL. THAT would have eliminated the NEED for additional refineries.
FRANCE uses 80% NUCLEAR energy. While they **** at pretty much EVERYTHING, I think they got this one right.
